Another week, another tight game for the Chiefs. And another record for tight end Travis Kelce, too.
In the third quarter of the Chiefs’ “Sunday Night Football” game against the Chargers, Kelce caught a 7-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes that moved the ball to the LA 47-yard line.
That pushed Kelce’s career receiving yardage over 12,000, the Chiefs noted. Kelce was playing in his 172nd career game, and he reached that milestone yardage in record fashion.
The old NFL mark was held by former Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez, who did it in 210 games.
With his last reception, TE Travis Kelce has passed 12,000 career receiving yards. He becomes the fastest TE in NFL history to reach the mark, accomplishing the feat in just 172 career games, beating PFHOF TE Tony Gonzalez’s previous mark for a TE of 210 games.

Kelce, who is in his 12th season, already broke a pair of Gonzalez’s Chiefs records: pass receptions and receiving yards. Gonzalez and Kelce are tied for the most touchdown catches in Chiefs history (76).
