Two siblings are dead after their truck was hit by a train in Texas on Sunday, Feb. 1, authorities said
Brileigh and Kyler Dailey were both active in athletics at Clyde High School
“All I could think was, ‘Please let this not be one of our kids,’ ” said Bryan Allen, the superintendent of Clyde Consolidated Independent School District
A teenage brother and sister were killed when their truck was hit by a train in Texas and “engulfed in flames” over the weekend, authorities said.
“All I could think was, ‘Please let this not be one of our kids,’ ” Bryan Allen, the superintendent of the Clyde Consolidated Independent School District, told CBS affiliate KEYE of learning about the fatal crash that killed two students in Clyde on Sunday, Feb. 1.
The victims were later identified as siblings Brileigh Janae Dailey, 19, and 16-year-old Kyler Dailey.
“Didn’t even run through my mind that it could have been two of them,â Allen said.
That Sunday, around 2:45 p.m. local time, officials responded to reports of a crash at the railroad crossing at County Road 243 and Farm-to-Market Road 18, KEYE, ABC affiliate KTXS and NBC affiliate KRBC reported.
âOn the north side of that intersection is the entrance to a private driveway,â Sgt. Marc Couch of the Texas Department of Public Safety told KTXS. âA Ford F-150 was attempting to exit that area, crossing the railroad tracks, and failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming train.â
Following the collision, the truck became âfully engulfed in flames,â Couch told the outlet.
Kyler was driving at the time, while his sister was a passenger in the truck, KRBC reported.
Both children died as a result of the collision, according to the outlets.
The Texas Department of Public Safety had no further comment when contacted by PEOPLE beyond confirming the information from the investigation so far.
Immediately following the crash, the superintendent rushed to the railroad crossing, where other district employees had already congregated.
“It’s heartbreaking when you pull up on that scene,” Allen told KEYE. “We already had staff members there, and they’re in tears, and kids are in tears and it’s just a horrible, horrible sight. It’s the last thing you ever want to hear or see.”
The school district is providing support to both students and staff.
“It’s a difficult day,” Allen said. “Extremely hard for all of us. Fortunately, we’ve had so many people reach out and offer support.”

Brileigh had just graduated from Clyde High School last year, and Kyler was a junior, according to a GoFundMe to support their family following the “unimaginable tragedy.”
Kyler ran track and played football and his sister was a cheerleader and participated in softball.
âThey were deeply loved and will always be remembered for the joy, kindness, and light they brought to those around them,â wrote the organizer of the donation page. âTheir loss has created a pain that words cannot fully express.â
As of Tuesday, Feb. 3, the fundraiser has garnered more than $70,000, well beyond its original $20,000 goal.
âBrileigh and Kyler were vibrant young lives with bright futures ahead of them,â the organizer wrote. âTheir sudden passing has left their family, friends, classmates, and community heartbroken.â
