An expert has suggested that Nancy Guthrie “likely died within the first 72 hours” of her disappearance.
Michael Gould, a retired Nassau County lieutenant and founder of the NYPD’s canine unit, examined the Nancy Guthrie case, reviewing Savannah Guthrie’s recent appeal video, possible abduction scenarios, and the likelihood of the 84-year-old still being alive.
Previously, Michael indicated he believed there was “under a 10%” probability that Nancy Guthrie remained alive. And now, he has reinforced his assessment, providing an approximate timeframe for when she may have died. This comes after a mystery man who claimed he “saw Nancy 5 days ago” offered chilling new proof.
In an exclusive interview with The Mirror US, Michael clarified that Nancy Guthrie’s case has most likely transitioned from a rescue operation to a recovery effort.

“Sadly, my assessment is that Nancy likely died within the first 72 hours and will ultimately be recovered,” Michael stated. “Recovery doesn’t bring closure-it simply removes the uncertainty of not knowing where she is.”
Michael further observed that Nancy will probably be discovered near her residence, explaining, “Historically, victims of abductions are frequently found in relatively close proximity, two to five miles. Nancy’s body will likely be found within a few miles of her home.”
Furthermore, Nancy’s medical condition has been a significant point of concern, as the mother of three required daily medication for an undisclosed heart condition. Tragically, it emerged that Nancy’s survival depended on her medication, with Michael stating, “It has now been nearly a month. Nancy was elderly, in poor health, and required life-sustaining medication.”

Additionally, Michael suspects the Guthrie family has confronted the grim possibility of their mother’s death, noting that “leads are running out.”
Following Savannah Guthrie’s announcement of a $1 million reward for information resulting in her mother’s rescue or recovery, Michael told The Mirror US, “The reward reflects the reality that investigators are likely running out of credible leads and that the family has, heartbreakingly, accepted that Nancy may be deceased.”
Whilst emphasizing the value of “hope,” Michael detected a noticeable shift in Savannah’s most recent video compared to earlier appeals, explaining, “Hope and prayer are human and necessary, but facts matter. At some point, families are forced to reconcile hope with evidence. That shift in tone reflects acceptance of the facts, not a loss of love or effort.”
Yet despite multiple public appeals and an intensive investigation, authorities have not identified any suspects in the case, nor have any arrests been made.
