PLEASE, Netflix, we need more!
If Black Mirror has taught us anything, itâs that nothingâespecially tech-fueled dystopiaâstays dead forever. The seriesâ seventh season lands on Netflix this month, a welcome return to our content plates.
Black Mirrorâs previous season dropped on the streamer in 2023 with five episodes telling stories about the true crime documentary pipeline in âLoch Henry,â the ethical implications of digital content creation in âJoan Is Awful,â and some Severance-esque consciousness play in âBeyond the Sea.â The season featured Annie Murphy, Josh Hartnett, Zazie Beetz, and Paapa Essiedu, among others.
The highly anticipated seventh season brings fans six new episodes, including a sequel to one of the seriesâ most popular episodes, âUSS Callister.â Cristin Milioti and Jimmi Simpson are back in their digital purgatory, and Peter Capaldi and Issa Rae are among the big names joining the cast. Themes? Expect your usual cocktail of digital dreadâAI nightmares, VR horrors, and existential tech despair served with a side of dark satire. Just how we like it. All episodes drop on April 10th â happy streaming.
Will there be a Black Mirror season 8?
When we inevitably tear through all six episodes on the first day of streaming, weâll be left wondering what comes next. And yet, as of early April 2025, Netflix has yet to officially confirm that season 8 of Black Mirror is in the works. That said, all signs point to the future being very much in play.
Charlie Brooker, Black Mirrorâs creator and resident prophet of our bleak digital tomorrow, has been pretty vocal about sticking with the show. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said, âIâm in it for the long haul. Iâm not going anywhere.â Thatâs not quite an announcement, but itâs the kind of quote that makes Netflix greenlight departments start clearing their calendars.
When would season 8 likely come out?
This wouldnât be the first time Black Mirror took its sweet time between seasons. After season 5 premiered in 2019, fans had to wait four years for the surprise drop of season 6 in 2023. So while season 8 hasnât been stamped or scheduled, the delay doesnât signal doomâjust a typical Black Mirror hiatus.
If historyâand Netflixâs algorithmâtells us anything, the demand is still very much alive. Season 6 drew a new wave of critical attention and social media buzz, and if season 7 sticks the landing, season 8 feels not like an âifâ but a âwhen.â Brookerâs consistent enthusiasm and the seriesâ proven fanbase give Netflix every reason to keep it going.
What we donât know: episode count, filming timelines, or plot details for season 8. What we do know: Brooker is already thinking ahead, Netflix isnât killing its buzziest anthology that we know of, and the appetite for Black Mirrorâs brand of digital doomscroll storytelling isnât going anywhere.
