Unsealed arrest warrants from Farmington give disturbing accounts of what allegedly happened to Jacqueline “Mimi” Torres-Garcia, who was found dead in New Britain.

zFARMINGTON, Connecticut — Farmington police have released body-camera footage showing officers interacting with Jacqueline “Mimi” Torres-Garcia’s mother and her mother’s boyfriend several months after investigators say they believe the 11-year-old had already died.

According to unsealed arrest warrants, the video captures Farmington police responding to multiple noise complaints at an apartment complex between September 2024 and February 2025, the home where investigators say Karla Garcia and her boyfriend, Jonatan Nanita, lived for several years. It’s also the last place “Mimi” was seen alive.

Police records show officers were called to the apartment four times over a five-month span but only made contact with the family once, on Dec. 29, 2024.

Body camera video from that day shows an officer greeting the couple at their door.

“Hello, how are you? Is everything okay? We got a call that there are a lot of noises coming from here,” the officer said.

In the footage, Karla Garcia responded, “They always call, everything is okay though.”

During the visit, officers asked to come inside the home and briefly spoke with both Garcia and Nanita. Garcia told them the couple was getting ready to move out of the apartment.

“We are leaving because of that… back to New Britain,” Garcia said on camera.

That encounter, police later learned, happened three months after “Mimi” had already died.

The newly unsealed arrest warrants for Garcia, Nanita and Garcia’s sister, Jackeline Garcia, reveal disturbing accounts of what allegedly happened to the 11-year-old girl.

According to investigators, Karla initially told police she and “Mimi” had argued after the child became upset upon learning her mother was pregnant again. Karla claimed “Mimi” pushed her, causing both to fall down the stairs. Later, Garcia changed her story, saying that Nanita became angry, kicked Mimi in the head and dragged her off. Garcia told investigators she never saw her daughter again after that.

But Nanita’s statement to police told a different story. He claimed he was homeless at the time when Karla contacted him for help disposing of a tote. He said when he arrived, he noticed blood on the walls, and Karla told him not to worry about it. Nanita admitted to trying to dispose of the tote at several locations before leaving it behind a house on Clark Street in New Britain, the site where the young girl’s remains were later discovered.

Ultimately, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that “Mimi” weighed only 26 to 27 pounds when her body was found and that her condition was the result of severe malnourishment, not decomposition. It was the doctor’s opinion that “Mimi” died from severe and prolonged malnutrition.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing, as prosecutors continue to build their case against all three suspects.
