“Running Point” has picked up a speedy renewal for Season 2 at Netflix.
The announcement was made on Netflix’s official X account on Thursday. The news comes just one week after the series debuted on Feb. 27.
In the announcement, series star Kate Hudson said, “A good basketball team owner knows when to listen to the fans. So we hear you, and so did Netflix. ‘Running Point’ is officially coming back for Season 2!” Thank you so much everyone who watched the show so far! I’m just beyond thrilled because you’re really the reason why we’re able to come back and do another season. So thank you and we’ll see you next season!”
Hudson stars in the series as Isla Gordon, the prodigal daughter of the owner of the legendary pro basketball franchise the Los Angeles Waves. But after her brother, the president of the team, is forced to resign after a major scandal, Isla is named president. Per the official logline, “Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job.”
Along with Hudson, the cast of the single-cam comedy includes Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Jay Ellis, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Max Greenfield, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Roberto Sanchez, Uche Agada, Dane DiLiegro, and Justin Theroux.
“Running Point” hails from writers Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen. All three also serve as executive producers, while Stassen is the series’ showrunner. Hudson executive produces in addition to starring. Jeanie Buss, president of the Los Angeles Lakers, also executive produces along with Lakers manager of special projects Linda Rambis, with Howard Klein of 3 Arts Entertainment executive producing as well. Jordan Rambis is a producer. Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling and her Kaling International banner are under an overall deal, is the studio.
