Penelope’s New Lady Whistledown Challenges In Bridgerton Season 4 Teased By Showrunner

Though Bridgerton season 4 will feature Benedict (Luke Thompson) and his Cinderella-esque fairy tale with Yerin Ha’s Sophie Baek, most of the Bridgerton clan will also be in attendance this season. This includes newlyweds Penelope and Colin, who, according to Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell, may not only repeat their much-publicized carriage ride in season 4 but will also face fresh obstacles as Penelope reasserts herself in society as Lady Whistledown.
In an interview with TVLine, Brownell shared that Bridgerton season 4 is a “big season for Penelope, because she finally came out as Lady Whistledown, so she’s having to navigate what it’s like being a gossip columnist when the people you’re writing about know you’re the one writing about them.”
Will overhearing juicy tidbits from the servants be enough to keep the Whistledown business afloat? Or will everyone be on high alert in her presence?
Thankfully, Penelope has an understanding husband in her corner, one who has learned to embrace her business-savvy mind and her considerable social power. “Colin is there to support her,” Brownell said of Newton’s role in season 4, “but it’s going to put pressure on each of them for sure.”
Bridgerton: What Happens To Lady Whistledown In The Books
It’s anyone’s guess how Penelope might approach her chosen career in Bridgerton season 4 and onward, especially now that she’s officially part of the Bridgerton family. Would never writing about them again put her in an unfavorable position with the Ton? Or will her continued role in society help Benedict and Sophie overcome their apparent class divide in the upcoming episodes? That remains to be seen.
Bridgerton season 4, part 1, premieres on Netflix on January 29, 2026. Part 2 will be released on February 26.
