Missing Texas womanâs parents: âWeâre cluelessâ on where she went
The family of Sydney Marquez says they are clueless about where she could have disappeared to or how she went missing.
âShe just was a bright, happy person and loves her family,â mother Luz Marquez told NewsNationâs âBanfield.â âShe had a lot of reasons to be continuing with her plans in her life, and she left a lot of things down here in El Paso.â
Marquez, 24, has been missing since Dec. 11. Surveillance video showed her last being seen walking near the hotel where she was staying while in Houston visiting friends.
Her vehicle was later found abandoned in the southwest part of the city.
âEvery indication shows that she was heading back to her hotel,â added Raul Marquez, Sydneyâs father. âHer phoneâs there, her iPadâs there, her class ring is there, her clothing is there. There is just no explanation why she didnât make it back to her hotel.â
Asked if the police are taking his daughterâs case seriously, he acknowledged theyâve been very hands-on.
âThese cases take time, but to my surprise, Iâve been facing several hotels, several businesses, and I have run into a detective,â he said. âSo, he is boots on the ground, and he is supportive of Sydneyâs case.â
Video showed Sydney Marquez near hotel before disappearance: Parents
Raul Marquez said they recently learned of new footage showing his daughter just 150 yards from the hotel where they were staying.
âShe was trying to get to our hotel,â he noted. âBut for some reason or another, she kept going westbound on Harwin (Drive). Thatâs the last footage we have.â
Her father said heâs hoping the Starbucks near the hotel can share footage from when Marquez crossed the flyway to help determine where she was going.
