The former talk show host paid tribute to her wife of 16 years as she turned 52 on Jan. 31
Ellen Degeneres is more in love than ever with wife Portia de Rossi.
On Friday, Jan. 31, the former talk show host, 67, paid tribute to de Rossi on her 52nd birthday, as she shared a sweet, laidback photo of them on an airplane.
“Happy birthday to my brilliant beautiful hilarious adventurous wife,” she wrote. “I think you’re terrific.”
The couple, who wed in 2008, have been largely laying low since DeGeneres’ talk show came to an end in May 2022, and recently relocated their lives from L.A. to England.
In November, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that they are now living in the Cotswalds region after DeGeneres was “in England house hunting in the beginning of October” and found a “house that she loved and purchased it shortly after.”
She and de Rossi were spotted soon after at a local pub owned by English TV presenter and journalist Jeremy Clarkson, the source said.
“They hung out with [Clarkson’s partner, actress] Lisa Hogan and James Blunt, and The Corrs performed at the pub.”
DeGeneres was recently back in the U.S., though, as she was seen in Montecito, Calif. on Jan. 14 in photos obtained by PEOPLE. She was sporting gray hair after growing out her signature blonde bob — a look she debuted following her move to England.
At the time, she made headlines after a photo of the comedian and her wife at their new local pub was posted on Instagram in November.

Their move to England is not the only major milestone in DeGeneres and de Rossi’s life of late. In December, they marked 20 years as a couple, and DeGeneres reflected on their two decades together in a sweet Instagram post as she shared a selfie of them in their new home.
“20 years ago today we began this relationship not realizing what a long beautiful adventure this would be. You are the best thing that ever happened in my life,” she wrote of the actress.
“You are a beautiful soul that I am so very grateful to have as a partner to navigate this crazy life with. My wife. My best friend. The love of my life. Thank you for being you and loving me. So happy we get to travel and explore the world together in the next 20 years, and looking forward to our first snowy Christmas.” She also used the post to clarify something fans had questions about. “P.S. for those of you concerned, our UK farmhouse did NOT flood,” she wrote at the end of the caption.
