They covered up the mistakes so well
Netflix’s new British crime drama Adolescence has taken over the world, and people are convinced these moments weren’t actually in the script.
The four-part series about a 13-year-old who is arrested for murdering a schoolmate was all filmed in one take, so there were obviously mistakes.
We know that some bits were improvised, like Jamie’s yawn in episode three, but viewers think three more errors were cleverly covered up.
Jamie asking if the hot chocolate has sprinkles
In episode three, the psychologist brings Jamie a hot chocolate like he previously asked her to and the kid stutters as he says “Sprinkles?”. People are convinced that he was actually supposed to say marshmallows not sprinkles, which would make a lot more sense and explain the stutter. There’s then a long pause as if the actors are wondering whether to continue the scene, before Jamie adds: “You remembered. Thank you.”

The teacher forgetting to introduce the female detective
People also think there was an error in episode two when the headteacher forgets to introduce the female detective to the class. She intterupts DI Bascombe, played by Ashley Walters, by saying “Oh I’m so sorry, Detective Sargeant Frank. I’m so sorry”. However, others think this could have been done on purpose to fit with the show’s themes of misogynism.
DI Bascombe asking if his son went into school
Another part that seems unscripted is in episode one, when the main detective calls his wife in the hallway of the police station. It’s only around 6am at the time and he apologises that he’s calling so early. Then, DI Bascombe asks if his son went into school before pausing and correcting himself, saying: “I mean, is he going in?”
The brilliant cover-ups have actually made the show even more realistic!
