ITV’s skating show Dancing on Ice should be axed, some Yahoo UK readers have said.

Sunday marks the grand finale for the 2025 series where Michaela Strachan and Mark Hanretty, Sam Aston and Molly Lanaghan as well as Anton Ferdinand and Annette Dytrt will compete for the 2025 winner’s title. There is no cash prize for the winners but they do get to take home a trophy.

The future of the ITV show — fronted by Holly Willoughby and her longtime showbiz friend Stephen Mulhern — remains uncertain after reports it will be axed following the 2025 final.

An ITV spokeswoman responded to the reports by telling Yahoo UK in a statement: “The team is fully concentrating on the much-anticipated series finale this coming Sunday and therefore no decision has been made.”

In Yahoo UK’s poll asking “should Dancing on Ice be cancelled?”, there were a total of 1,959 votes cast on what should be the future of the ITV show.

The overwhelming majority of the votes said Dancing on Ice should be cancelled, with 1,379 saying it was time for the show to end.

In comparison, there were only 446 votes from people who wanted to see the show return to our screens next year in January. There were also 134 people who voted that they were undecided on whether Dancing on Ice should be cancelled.

In 2023, presenter Phillip Schofield resigned from his position as one of the hosts on the show after his “unwise but legal” affair with a younger male colleague at This Morning.

There was initially a question mark over whether Willoughby would return after she quit This Morning (five months after Schofield) when she became the target of a kidnap and rape and murder plot. Gavin Plumb, 37, was sentenced to life in jail for targeting the star. However, she made a comeback and has remained on the ITV show where she has been joined by long-time pal Mulhern.

Dancing on Ice has a few reasons in favour of cancelling the ITV skating show, including the injuries the professional skaters and the celebrities get both during live performances and in training.

Olympic skating gold medallists Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean will no longer perform on the show as they are getting — in their words — “too old” but both said they would love to return as judges regardless.

There has also been a drop in ratings over the years, with its peak getting as many as 12 million viewers. Now catch-up viewing has shown Dancing on Ice has averaged at three million viewers across its run, with 3.6 million streams on ITVX, ITV confirmed to The Mirror.

Other than nostalgia, a reason to keep the show on our screens is that the stars taking part celebrate the experience as rewarding as well as a confidence and career boost.

Cancelling Dancing on Ice after its 2025 final would mean the show would miss out on a huge milestone. In 2026, it will be 20 years since Dancing on Ice was first on our screens. Of course, Dancing on Ice hasn’t been on our TV screens for the whole time as ITV rested the show in 2014 for four years. It was later rebooted again in 2018.
