Writers have already started working on the second season.
If you’ve fallen into the Western romance rabbit hole otherwise known as Ransom Canyon, then congratulations because you’ve come to the right corner of the internet. Since premiering on Netflix on April 17, the show has climbed the ranks to become one of the top-watched series on the platform.
The drama starring Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly is set in the Texas Hill Country and is helping to fill that Yellowstone-size hole in our hearts. Fans have already compared the show to a country version of Friday Night Lights and even though it’s been out for less than a week, many are asking, “Will there be a season 2 of Ransom Canyon?” We did some digging to find the answer and here’s everything we know so far.

Given how the series ended, fans have anxiously been waiting for the answer to this question. So far, neither Netflix nor the creators of the show have announced any official plans to greenlight a second season. However, the chances of there being a follow up season look promising.
April Blair, showrunner and Ransom Canyon creator, revealed to TV Insider that she’s feeling confident about show’s future. She even revealed that she and the show writers are already preparing for a second season, which means Netflix has invested money into the idea, even if they haven’t officially approved new episodes. “We’ve already started the writers’ room, even though the show hasn’t been picked up to series yet for season 2,” Blair said.
*Season 1 Spoilers Ahead*
Blair also hinted at a potential 6-month time jump to kickoff second season. Several storylines are primed for continuation. At the end of season 1, Quinn (Minka Kelly) tells Staten (Josh Duhamel) that she needs to return to New York for a few months, putting a halt to their budding romance. And to make things even more complicated, by the end of the season, Staten finally discovers who’s really responsible for his son’s death.
“Not that Staten will ever get over the loss of his child, but we wanted to give him some hope and a little big of lightness. Quinn’s going to go off to New York and come back. How is he going to win her back if he’s still haunted? I don’t feel like he could ever truly move on in his heart and his mind until that mystery was settled,” Blair told TV Insider. “We wanted to find some closure with that, and also, who was behind it and what really happened opens up a whole new series of relationship drama between Lucas and Lauren, as you know. So it gives us a lot of runway in other stories as well.”
Of course, we need to know about *that* scene that dropped a big bombshell about Yancy. Jack Schumacher, who portrays the mysterious cowboy, told Country Living, “Yancy’s got quite a hole to dig himself out of, you know. But other than that, I can’t give away too much. I definitely do have some idea of where the show’s gonna go, but you know things always change, so I gotta keep that under lock and key.”
