Ex-FBI agent breaks down clues in gun, gloves & backpack from Nancy Guthrie doorbell video as ‘homeless’ theory emerges

The FBI has released a description of the male subject seen on Nancy’s doorbell camera

A FORMER FBI agent has claimed the gun, gloves, and backpack used by the person seen in surveillance footage outside of Nancy Guthrie’s home opens up a chilling new theory on her kidnapping.

He has also suggested that two gloves found near Nancy’s home earlier this week could hold the answers in profiling a potential suspect.

One mysterious black glove was found abandoned on a roadside about two miles from Nancy’s Tucson home 11 days after the 84-year-old was taken from her home against her will in the dark of night.

Another glove was found about ten miles away from her home in the Catalina Foothills.

The gloves appear to resemble the pair worn by a masked man who was caught on Nancy’s Nest doorbell camera on the morning of February 1, hours before her family reported her missing.

Photos obtained by the New York Post showed two detectives placing the gloves into an evidence bag and driving away from the scene.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that “several items of evidence, including gloves,” have been submitted for analysis.

Former senior FBI forensic special agent Tom Myers, who is not involved in the investigation, said that if the gloves were in fact used by the alleged kidnapper there’s a chance investigators could begin constructing a profile.

Using a prop glove, Myers displayed to The U.S. Sun how Nancy’s alleged abductor could leave behind DNA evidence despite the pair of gloves lying out in the Tucson sun.

“He’s going to put these pair of gloves on somehow,” Myers, a 25-year FBI veteran, said.

“So, he’s got to pull those things on the other pair of gloves. And as he’s doing that, this is indeed the nitrile gloves that was on top of it.

“If he did that, he’s touching all of the inside. If we get six to eight skin cells, we got him. We’ve got a profile and they could very well be doing that right now.

“It doesn’t take much to get a DNA profile. You’re shedding DNA skin cells constantly. What degrades them is the sun and that time out in the sun over here.

“However, if it’s flipped over, you might be now, are the gloves related? Yes or no. That looked like a pretty new glove to me.”

Chilling doorbell footage

As the search for Nancy nears the end of its second week, authorities are asking neighbors to submit any surveillance footage from January 1 to February 2 that they believe could be “out of the ordinary or important” to their investigation.

The plea by investigators comes after the release of Nancy’s Nest doorbell footage generated thousands of tips by concerned citizens, which led to a brief detention of a man in Rio Rico, about 66 miles from Catalina Foothills.

The harrowing doorbell footage showed a masked armed man gingerly walking up to Nancy’s front door before noticing the security camera and using his right hand to cover the lens.

The man then stepped back. searched the ground, stepped off the front porch, and pulled a plant from the lawn, which he then used to obscure the doorbell camera.

The male subject was cloaked in a ski mask, dressed in a jacket and pants, and wore gloves and a backpack.

How the masked subject was able to gain access into Nancy’s home and how the alleged abduction played out remains unclear.

Myers, the retired FBI forensic agent who also spent years selling and remanufacturing firearms, broke down the doorbell camera footage to The U.S. Sun and believes the holster the individual was wearing is from the 1970s.

“They’ve said over and over again, it’s a revolver type holster. I haven’t seen one of these in a long time, Possibly it could be a modern version of it for something like that,” Myers said as he displayed a 1970s era Border Patrol style holster.

“It’s just a really amateur type holster and doesn’t even seem to have any retention to it at all. It’s a very big mismatch.

“They’re getting it correct, by the way. A couple of guys who spoke to it rather adroitly about the automatic being thrown into an old, I’m going to call it, 1970s pouch or drop holster. There’s no retention on it at all.”

‘Homeless’ theory

In the days since the video’s release, FBI investigators have identified the backpack the man was carrying as a black, 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack.

Ozark Trails is a brand of outdoor equipment sold at Walmart and Myers said the accessory is the “de-facto brand that the homeless wear.”

“They’ll go into Walmart and get that stuff, that material. It’s very, very cheap, but it’s very durable. Very useful for what they do,” the former FBI agent added.

“So, we had an outdoor trails backpack, seemingly, what it seems to match what’s in the open source that’s going out right now.

“And the patterns do seem to match with the reflective material on the backpack.

“That tells me, you know, homeless type individual, someone going to Walmart to cheapen, that tells me there’s not a level of sophistication that I would see on a professional if there is such a thing, professional kidnapper, but somebody that is a very sophisticated planner or somebody who’s doing something with a lot of thought into this.”

Myers also described the flashlight the man in the video had in his mouth as a “squeeze flashlight.”

“He’s got a throwaway squeeze flashlight that he put into his mouth and they give those away,” he said.

“He probably used that and probably got that at Walmart as well.

“Again, not throwing a bias here, my mind is going to a homeless type person just because of the juxtaposition of weird stuff that he’s carrying with him.

“It seems to be like a pair of sweatpants and over another pair of pants, awkward gloves, Ozark Trail backpack, the face mask and everything else.

“It’s not somebody who’s tactically coming from the tactical websites and even getting airsoft type equipment to look the part.

“And that is not an outfit that’s going to yield lend itself rather to fast movement or anything else. Very awkward.”

The FBI has doubled its reward to $100,000 for any tips that would lead to the suspected kidnappers arrest.

Based on analysis of the footage, federal investigators disclosed a vague description of the subject on Nancy’s doorbell camera, describing him as a male about 5’9″ and 5’10” and of average build.

Timeline:

January 31: Nancy is last seen by her family

5:32pm: Nancy travels to her daughter’s home for dinner, about 11 minutes from her own house.
9:48pm: Family members drop off Nancy Guthrie at her home in Tucson. Her garage door closes two minutes later.

February 1: Nancy is reported missing and a search begins

1:47am: Nancy’s doorbell camera disconnects
2:12am: Camera software detects a person moving in range of the camera. There is no video, and Nancy does not have a storage description.
2:28am: Nancy’s pacemaker app disconnects from her phone, which is later found still at her house.
Around 11am: A parishioner at Nancy’s church calls the mom’s children and says she failed to show up for service.
11:56am: Family members arrive at Nancy’s house to check on her.
12:03pm: The family calls 911 to report Nancy missing.
8:55pm: The Pima County Sheriff’s Office gives its first press conference and reveals some clues found at Nancy’s home caused “grave concern.” Sheriff Chris Nanos says helicopters, drones, and infrared cameras are all being utilized in the search.

February 2: Search crews pull back. Nancy’s home is considered a crime scene. Savannah releases a statement thanking supporters for their prayers, which her co-hosts read on Today.
February 3: A trail of blood is pictured outside Nancy’s home, where there were reportedly signs of forced entry. Nanos admits they have no suspects, no leads, and no videos that could lead to Nancy’s recovery. He and the FBI beg for more tips and accounts.
February 4, 8pm: Savannah and her siblings release a heartbreaking video directed at their mother’s abductors asking for proof she is alive and saying they’re willing to work with them to get her back.
February 5: FBI offers $50,000 reward for information on the case.

5pm: First ransom demand deadline for millions in Bitcoin passes. Guthrie family releases demand to speak “directly” to the kidnappers, saying, “We want to talk to you and we are waiting for contact.”

February 9, 5pm: Second ransom demand deadline, reportedly with “much more serious” conditions.
