Netflix is the home to a long-running Western series that is very different from Yellowstone, and the show is enjoying new streaming success after an update. Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone franchise has become known as the biggest factor that led to a whole new wave of Western movies and TV shows. After the original show ended, Yellowstone spinoffs and sequels continue to be developed.
While the Yellowstone universe is important to the genre and shows no signs of slowing down, it is far from the only Western that has found success in recent years. Netflix has had multiple Western shows released in that time, with hits like American Primeval and Ransom Canyon. Now, the streaming service is seeing another Western series rise in its charts.
As for Netflix’s worldwide rankings, Heartland is nowhere to be found. That said, another Canadian drama is present, as Sullivan’s Crossing is currently the 6th most-watched TV show on Netflix around the globe. The streaming service only has five shows ahead of the Canadian series, which are Bridgerton, The Lincoln Lawyer, HIS & HERS, Is It Cake? Valentines, and Animal Kingdom.
Heartland is a long-running Western series that started airing way back on October 14, 2007. The Canadian family drama goes for a different take on the Western genre than Yellowstone and its spinoffs. While the Taylor Sheridan Western franchise is definitely darker, more intense, and features shocking action sequences, Heartland is the kind of feel-good TV that serves as perfect counter-programming.ư
While Heartland is trending on Netflix in the United States after season 18 was added to the streaming service, the Canadian show is already well past that point. Heartland season 19 started airing in Canada on October 5, 2025. The season concluded with episode 10, which was released on December 7, 2025. Heartland season 20 has yet to be announced.
