“The contractual thing is tough for me. I like my freedom,” the actress said on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ March 3
Kate Hudson is in no rush to walk down the aisle.
During her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on Monday, March 3, the actress, 45, explained how although she’s happily engaged to Danny Fujikawa she’s not as excited about wedding planning. The Running Point star has been engaged to her fiancé, 38, for three years and isn’t sure when they’ll tie the knot — if ever.
“I just don’t have the same kind of like, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to get married, and I can’t wait and I can’t wait for the party.’ It’s the opposite. I’m like, ‘Okay, I have to plan it and then it’s going to cost so much money’ and it’s just a lot,” she told Drew Barrymore and Ross Mathews.

Hudson added that she’s open to the idea of just staying engaged.
“I like the idea of being engaged forever,” she said. “The contractual thing is tough for me. I like my freedom … I like the concept of freedom.”
The thought of “signing the government contract” makes Hudson uneasy. She pointed out that her mother, Goldie Hawn, and Kurt Russell have been together since 1983 and have never made their relationship legally official.
“They never signed the contract. They’ve been engaged since I was 7,” Hudson said.

However, she noted that she would “maybe” elope, and still wants the “gravy boat” and all that goes with a wedding.
After 15 years of friendship, Hudson and Fujikawa began dating in 2016 and welcomed their first child together, daughter Rani Rose, in 2018. Hudson also shares son Ryder Russell Robinson with ex-husband Chris Robinson, whom she was married to from 2000 to 2007. She also shares son Bingham Hawn Bellamy with Muse singer Matt Bellamy, whom she was engaged to from 2011 to 2014.
Fujikawa popped the question after nearly five years of dating in September 2021.
Hudson announced their engagement on Sept. 13, 2021, by posting a photo of the pair kissing with her ring on full display on Instagram and captioning it, “Let’s go! .” That same day, Hudson debuted her stunning engagement ring again at the 2021 Met Gala.
