Kate Hudson doesn’t subscribe to a tattoo-free household, however, she does have boundaries about the kind of ink her kids get.
In the March 13 episode of The Martha Stewart Podcast, the actress and singer, 45, opened up about some of her oldest son Ryder Robinson’s tattoos, revealing that he has “quite a few,” but there’s one in particular that made her “draw a line as a mother.”
“Ryder got a tattoo that I hate so much,” Hudson admitted to host Martha Stewart. “I’m like, nope. That’s coming off.”
The “terrible” tattoo in question? A “scribble” located on her 21-year-old son’s calf. “It’s gotta go and he’s gonna get it taken off,” Hudson confessed.

Among Ryder’s collection of tats (that are mom-approved) is the one that honors his three half-siblings. His “CBR” ink, located on his arm, stands for the initials of his sisters Cheyenne Genevieve (whose dad is Hudson’s ex-husband Chris Robinson) and Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa (who’s dad is Hudson’s current fiancé Danny Fujikawa) and brother Bingham Hawn Bellamy (who Hudson shares with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy).
Other than that, the Running Point star is pretty carefree when it comes to her kids getting tattoos (of course, when they reach the appropriate age), but there are still a few more non-negotiables she lives by. “I’m just like, just stay away from the neck, you know, neck down. Just help me out. I don’t want face tattoos, please,” she said.

Hudson herself also has a tattoo, a small star that she got on her foot. “I was a wimp. It was supposed to be much bigger, and then I got one star and I’m like, I’m out. I’m done.”
She also revealed how the tiny art reminds her of her mom Goldie Hawn. “We have the same size foot. We have the same-looking foot. Like, it’s literally identical, which is so cute. For her 60th birthday, she got a heart on right where my star is on her foot, so when we put our feet together they look exactly the same.”

Over the years, Hudson has not been shy about family life, documenting many memories with her kids on social media. On Ryder, the Oscars nominee has talked about him possibly following in his parents footsteps as a musician and actor.
Not only is he a musician playing guitar in his band Codependence, but he’s also “deeply funny.”

“I would say he’s probably the funniest in our family. So, this is like every day for me. Nobody makes me laugh like Ryder, and he just constantly makes fun of me,” Hudson said in a 2021 interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Last year, Hudson told PEOPLE how her relationship with Ryder is different from that of her younger kids. “Because I guess I was young when I had him, it’s a different relationship than with my other kids. So he’s seen me through all of my good times, my bad times, this boyfriend, not that boyfriend,” she said, adding that she’s “never had an adult life” without her eldest.
