Nancy Guthrie’s abductor should be “extremely worried,” it has been suggested, as crucial evidence was likely left at the scene. The case has captivated the nation in recent weeks after Nancy — the mother of NBC News anchor Savannah Guthrie — was first reported missing from her residence outside Tucson, Arizona, on February 1, with authorities suspecting she was taken against her will.
The FBI, which has recently doubled its reward for information from $50,000 to $100,000, is on the hunt for a suspect described as being between 5ft 9in and 5ft 10in tall with an average build.
Doorbell camera footage from Nancy’s home captured someone outside wearing a ski mask and gloves while carrying a black 25-litre Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack. It comes as a lawyer claimed the Guthrie case shows inconsistencies as ‘six alarming things don’t add up’.

In what would surely boost hopes for anyone connected to the case, investigators have recovered DNA from the scene, though it was characterized as a “mixed” sample.

Unfortunately, this complicates matters. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told NBC News that they “listen” to their lab, but the lab indicated there are “challenges with it,” with results potentially taking “weeks, months or maybe a year.”
Indeed, this type of sample contains genetic material from multiple people and is “much more difficult to work with,” according to CeCe Moore, chief genetic genealogist at Parabon Nanolabs.
She explained to People: “The more people you get in that DNA (sample), particularly unknown people’s DNA, the harder it is to just isolate one person’s out of that.”
Though not involved in the investigation, CeCe has previously worked with the laboratory in question, emphasizing that they’re “very, very good at what they do” and that it must be a “very difficult sample.”
In further clues to the sample’s nature, drawing from information reported in the news, she expressed that it would be “less likely” to constitute what she referred to as a “really good source” of DNA or blood.

CeCe did provide a glimmer of hope for the family, noting: “If I was the kidnapper, I would be extremely worried right now, particularly if I knew there was some kind of altercation, or I knew I touched things in there.”
Referencing the doorbell footage, she suggested that “saliva could have been left” as a result of the suspect, who was thought to have possibly been using a “bite flashlight,” bending over.
In her concluding comments, CeCe informed the publication that the kidnapper should be “very concerned,” noting that it would be “extremely difficult,” under these conditions, not to “leave your DNA behind.”
