In addition to being one of the most celebrated hip-hop artists of all time, Eminem is a father to three children.
During an October 2020 appearance on the “Hotboxin With Mike Tyson” podcast, the “Lose Yourself” rapper shared insight into his parenting journey: “When I think about my accomplishments, that’s probably the thing that I’m the most proud of … being able to raise kids.”
The Grammy winner welcomed daughter Hailie Jade in December 1995 with ex-wife Kim Scott. The former spouses tied the knot in 1999 and split in 2001 before exchanging vows for a second time in 2006. They called it quits again later that same year.
Eminem also adopted Stevie — whom his ex-wife welcomed in 2002 with then-boyfriend Eric Hartter —and Alaina, born in 1993 to Kim’s sister, Dawn Scott. (Dawn died at age 41 in 2016 after struggling with drug addiction.)
Alaina Marie Scott
When asked about his children during a 2020 appearance on “Hot Boxing With Mike Tyson,” Eminem gave Alaina — whose late mother, Dawn, was Kim’s sister — a shout-out.
“I have a niece that I have helped raise, too, that’s kind of like a daughter … pretty much like a daughter to me,” he said.
The Oscar winner name-checks his niece in his 2004 song “Mockingbird,” rapping, “Lainie, uncle’s crazy, ain’t he? / Yeah, but he loves you, girl, and you better know it.”
Alaina wed longtime boyfriend Moeller in June 2023. “I had an 80-ft long black and white checkered aisle and my dad walked me down the aisle,” Scott told People at the time. “He wasn’t going to miss that.”
Stevie Laine Scott
Kim welcomed Stevie with then-boyfriend Hartter in 2002. Eminem adopted them in 2005.
Stevie came out as nonbinary via TikTok in August 2021, sharing their journey of “becoming more comfortable” with themselves through a series of photos and revealing that they now use “all pronouns” to describe themselves.
Kimberly Ann Scott
Kim and Eminem were married from 1999 to 2001 and again for a brief period in 2006.
“In our relationship, there’s a pattern. Like, we’ll have two good years and then it will go bad for some reason,” Kim said of her high school sweetheart during a 2007 interview with 20/20. “It’s like a two-year max with us and we hadn’t reached the two years yet. I just didn’t want to rush into anything before the two years.”
Debbie Nelson
The “Like Toy Soldiers” singer and his mother have had a complicated relationship over the years. In his 1999 song “My Name Is,” Eminem claimed that Nelson “does more dope than I do.” Nelson sued her son for defamation over the lyrics, winning a settlement of $25,000 in 2001 after originally seeking $11 million in damages.
In her 2008 memoir — My Son, Marshall, My Son, Eminem — Nelson told her side of the story, claiming, “If I made one mistake as a mother, it was giving in to my eldest son’s every whim.”
She continued: “He never knew his father, and I did all I could to make up for it. I wasn’t happy when he made up a whole new life for himself — what mother wants to be known as a pill-popping alcoholic who lives on welfare? To tell the truth, I was heartbroken.”
Eminem, for his part, apologized for rapping about his mother in his 2013 song “Headlights.”
“I went in headfirst, never thinking about who, what I said hurt / In what verse, my mom probably got it the worst,” he rapped on the track.
TMZ reported in December 2024 that Nelson died at the age of 69 following a battle with lung cancer.
