Netflix’s latest sleeper hit series is a DC Comics story that stars a fan-favorite Game of Thrones star. The new season of The Sandman is climbing up the streaming charts. Per FlixPatrol and as of July 8, The Sandman is #2 on the Top TV Shows on Netflix in the world. It trails closely behind the new season of Squid Game, which is taking the top spot with an impressive 916 points. At 736 points, The Sandman isn’t too far behind, and it has almost double the score of the third most popular series on Netflix, the newly-released business drama The Waterfront (405 points). The rest of the Top 10 includes Olympo (#4), Attack on London: Hunting the 7/7 Bombers (#5), Ginny & Georgia (#6), Ángela (#7), All the Sharks (#8), Departure (#9) and WWE Raw (#10).
Season 2 of The Sandman premiered on Jul. 3, with a second batch of episodes scheduled for release on the streamer on Jul. 24 and a bonus episode on Jul. 31. Back in January, it was announced that The Sandman would be ending with its second season, having completed the story of its main character Morpheus (Tom Sturridge).

In CBR’s recent review of The Sandman Season 2, Vol. 1, Martin Carr praised Christie’s return as Lucifer. “Gwendoline Christie makes a welcome return as Lucifer Morningstar, having a crucial impact on this second season. […] Her relationship with Dream is one of the more interesting elements that will keep audiences asking questions and challenge their preconceived notions of faith.”
The series originally premiered in 2022 and was a critically acclaimed hit for Netflix, praised for its casting, visual effects and faithfulness to the DC Comics source material. While the second season hasn’t fully aired at this time, its initial reception has been more lukewarm by comparison.
The Sandman Was Always Intended to End With Season 2

“It was a decision we made three years ago,” The Sandman showrunner Allan Heinberg confirmed. The choice was made because the series wanted to focus primarily on Dream’s story. “There are some volumes where he just appears in two scenes. There’s so many protagonists in Sandman, but you think of the whole thing as his story,” Heinberg revealed.
The Sandman is now streaming on Netflix. New episodes of Season 2 will arrive on Jul. 24.
