The Wednesday season 2 part 2 trailer reveals that late Nevermore principal, Larissa Weems, played by Gwendoline Christie, has returned as Wednesday Addams’ spirit guide. But why her? Because she is someone who’s respected and experienced enough to become both a motivator and a mentor in Wednesday’s life.

Larissa can push Wednesday to recover, confront Tyler, and survive the dangers that are closing in on her and her friend Enid. So, let’s look at what kind of relationship Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday seems to have with Christie’s Principal Larissa from the trailer, and the evolution of their dynamic throughout the show.

The trailer opens with Wednesday’s disoriented awakening in a hospital, and she finds Larissa Weems in a nurse’s uniform, greeting her with, “Rise and shine, sleepyhead!” She asks Weems, “What part of hell is this?”

To which, Principal Weems says: “This isn’t hell, Ms. Addams. But, I understand the confusion.” Before eventually revealing herself as Wednesday’s “new spirit guide.” From the trailer, it seems like Larissa only exists for Wednesday to see and hear.

Gwendoline Christie, who’s known for playing Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thronesbrings the perfect mix of sarcasm and counsel. But the spirit guide isn’t there to bring comfort to Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday because Larissa tries to challenge her student, reminding her of the situation’s urgency.

From the moment Wednesday arrived at Nevermore, she seemed like a potential troublemaker to Weems. But for Jenna Ortega’s protagonist, she was just another authority figure to defy. However, beneath all their friction, you could always feel the unspoken recognition they had for each other.

Weems was once a student at the same academy and shared a room with the intense yet reserved Morticia Addams. So, she saw a younger version of herself in Wednesday, and over the episodes, there were traces of a mother-daughter relationship, more than what Wednesday had with her actual mother.

But their reunion has happened in a high-stakes situation where multiple threats and, most importantly, Tyler, are gunning for Wednesday and Enid. But even after death, Larissa Weems is ensuring that Wednesday survives.

It remains to be seen how their rare connection will unfold on the show. But it does promise some sort of closure and final goodbye. So, what do you think about Weems returning as Wednesday’s spirit guide? Do you like her supernatural mentor, or does it feel like a painful reminder of what’s been lost, and will perhaps slip away again?

You can watch Wednesday on Netflix (USA).
