Netflix Sirens creator Molly Smith Metzler just announced season 2 with a shocking announcement

Netflix’s dark-comedy Sirens is on the way, starring big names like Julianne Moore, Meghann Fahy and Milly Alcock.

Sirens is set to be Netflix subscribers’ next obsession but this is far from creator Molly Smith Metzler’s first time working on a massive show.

Sirens focuses on the estranged relationship between Devon (played by Meghann Fahy) and her sister Simone (Milly Alcock) who lose touch for several months.

It is during this period that Simone has started working for socialite Michaela Kell but Devon grows concerned about just how close the billionaire has become to her sister.

Sirens, which will be released in full on Thursday, May 22, comes from the mind of Molly Smith Metzler with the drama based on her play Elemeno Pea which she wrote while attending Juilliard School.

And while some fans may not be too familiar with Metzler’s name, they have most certainly seen a lot of her work on the small screen.

Molly Smith Metzler’s career

According to IMDb, Molly Smith Metzler kickstarted her television career on the award-winning Netflix hit Orange Is The New Black. She joined the team for the show’s fifth season which came out in 2017, working as the executive story editor for 13 episodes.

This was a particularly memorable series, given the heartbreaking death of Poussey (Samira Wiley) and then later the death of guard Piscatella (Brad William Henke) during the prison riots.

It was then around the same time that Metzler began working, once again as the executive story editor, on the comedy series Casual starring Michaela Watkins and Tommy Dewey. Metzler worked on the second and third seasons of Casual revolved around a bachelor brother living with his newly divorced sister.

She then turned her attention to US’ Shameless starring The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White and Fargo actor William H Macy. Metzler wrote a handful of episodes of the award-winning family comedy drama in seasons eight to 10.

It was then in 2021 that Metzler tried her hand at creating a show for the first time, bringing to life Netflix’s Maid.

Based on the true story of author Stephanie Land’s memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay and a Mother’s Will to Survive, Maid is about a young mom who escapes an abusive relationship and works as a cleaner to provide for her daughter.

Netflix’s Maid was one of The Substance star Margaret Qualley’s first eye-catching roles, having also starred in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and Poor Things. And aside from Sirens, Metzler already has another project to get excited about.

She is currently working on the drama The Thing About Jellyfish which sees its main character Suzy go on a journey of “life, death and love”, after her former best friend drowns.

Suzy is going to be portrayed by Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown.

Sirens premieres on Thursday, May 22, on Netflix.
