Netflix has unearthed yet another global hit in Untamed, a new murder mystery series starring Eric Bana. Released on July 17, 2025, the six-episode limited series wasted no time in shooting up the charts, becoming the No. 1 most-watched show on the platform in both the United States and globally. Within days of its premiere, Untamed racked up an astonishing 24.6 million views before its debut week even came to a close.

Created by screenwriting duo Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) and Elle SmithUntamed is set against the rugged backdrop of Yosemite National Park. The series centers on Kyle Turner (Bana), a special agent with the National Park Service’s Investigative Services Branch. Still reeling from the recent loss of his young son, Turner is pulled into a murder investigation when an unidentified corpse is discovered deep within the park grounds. He’s forced to team up with a green rookie from the NPS, and together they must navigate a trail of secrets and personal demons.

Critically, Untamed made a strong first impression. It debuted with a certified fresh 81% score on Rotten Tomatoes from professional reviewers, accompanied by a stellar 88% audience rating on the Popcornmeter. As more feedback rolled in, the numbers adjusted slightly, settling at 77% from critics and 71% from audiences, still comfortably within “certified fresh” territory. The show’s moody cinematography and minimalist dialogue have been widely praised.

Bana, known for past roles in MunichDirty John, and The Dry, is joined by Sam Neill, who plays the seasoned chief ranger and mentor, while Rosemarie DeWitt stars as Turner’s ex-wife, whose past ties deeply into the murder in question. Lily Santiago shines as Naya Vasquez, a rookie ranger and single mom, with Wilson Bethel portraying a brooding former Army Ranger turned wildlife officer. The cast also includes William S. SmillieRaoul Max TrujilloJoe HoltEzra Franky, and Nicola Correia-Damude.

Hot on the heels of Untamed, both in the global and US rankings, is Amy Bradley Is Missing, a new true-crime documentary series that’s quickly capturing audience interest. The Sandman recently returned strong with Season 2, and it’s no surprise that it is in the top 10 among global audiences. However, in the US rankings, the third and fourth spots are firmly occupied by Sullivan’s Crossing, a new arrival on Netflix that is being touted as a Virgin River replacement, though rather than a replacement, both shows will co-exist together following Virgin River‘s renewal for Season 8, even before Season 7 arrives. Also, Sullivan’s Crossing, which quickly became an audience favorite, has recently been renewed for Season 4. Rounding out the Top 10 is Squid Game‘s divisive third and final season, as well as the crime drama, The Waterfront, starring Holt McCallany and Melissa Benoist.
