Wednesday season 2 is nearly here, and it’s clear that this installment’s release will be a massive event for Netflix. The coming episodes will follow Wednesday as she returns for another year at Nevermore Academy, where a new big mystery awaits her. We’ve also been teased with more Addams Family characters, including Grandmama Frump, played by Joanna Lumley.
The newest Wednesday episodes haven’t even dropped yet, but the series has already been renewed for season 3. It’s impossible to predict how long Wednesday will go on, but we can likely expect at least one more installment after season 3, allowing Wednesday to complete her education at Nevermore. Even then, this is unlikely to be the end, since a Wednesday spinoff is already in talks.
Netflix’s Wednesday Spinoff In The Works Would Be The Second Adaptation Not Focused On The Entire Addams Family
Wednesday Was Revolutionary For The Franchise

Wednesday creator Alfred Gough and Netflix’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria have revealed (via THR) that the creatives behind Wednesday are already tossing around the idea of a spinoff. Though they couldn’t reveal much about any concrete ideas, Gough noted that “there are other characters” that a spinoff could explore. Bajaria added to this, stating that “there’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.”

Until Wednesday, every Addams Family adaptation was, as the name suggests, about all the Addamses.
There have been Addams Family movies, both live action and animated, that have contained stories centered on a specific character. Similarly, the classic sitcom would use individual episodes to explore a family member’s backstory or day-to-day life. However, until Wednesday, every Addams Family adaptation was, as the name suggests, about all the Addamses.
Wednesday has officially proven that a different approach works. Of course, Gomez and Morticia’s daughter was the perfect character to test this route on. She has long been a fan favorite, and, as a teenager, she’s the perfect protagonist for a high-school drama with a twist. This begs the question: Could a Wednesday spinoff following a different member of the Addams family be as successful?
Which Character Could Wednesday’s Potential Addams Family Spinoff Be About?
This Kooky Family Is Full Of Options

Uncle Fester is nearly as beloved a character as Wednesday, and seeing Fred Armisen return would be a delight. A spinoff series could follow Fester on his various adventures, perhaps centralizing some kooky mysteries similar to what Wednesday has faced. However, Fester may be best served as a supporting character—his schtick might not be as charming at center stage.
Of course, a Gomez and Morticia spinoff set during their time at Nevermore could be intriguing. The only problem here is that Wednesday has already begun to explore this time in their lives. A spinoff could end up simply rehashing what the Netflix series has already covered.
Perhaps the best option, already set up by Wednesday season 1, would be a prequel series following Wednesday’s grandmother. Xavier mentioned that this woman and his old godmother used to travel Europe together, swindling the “rich and notorious.” It’s unclear whether he was talking about Grandmama Frump or Wednesday’s other grandmother, but there’s certainly a spinoff-worthy story here.
Wednesday’s Spinoff Likely Won’t Happen Anytime Soon
Netflix Has Its Attention On Wednesday Season 3

As intriguing as a Wednesday-like Addams Family spinoff is, it likely won’t happen any time soon—and that’s a good thing. Gough and Wednesday co-creator Miles Millar told our sister site, Collider, that a spinoff isn’t the priority right now. The pair is entirely focused on getting the now-confirmed Wednesday season 3 to audiences faster than it took for season 2.
It’s been three years since Wednesday season 1 took Netflix by storm, so the news that the creatives behind this series are eager to get season 3 going in much less time is fantastic. If we assume that there will be a total of four seasons, then this first unique Addams Family spinoff may conclude in just a few more years. Then, we can surely turn our attention to whatever new story is cooking.
