What is Miss Governor about?

After she wins her election, she must figure out how to thrive under a sexist and condescending governor, while attempting to keep her family in line now that they’re all in the public eye.

Who is in the Miss Governor cast?

The Miss Governor cast features some familiar faces from the Tyler Perry universe, including Vaughn, Jo Marie Payton, Karon Riley, and Robert Craighead, along with newcomers like Jade Novah, Drew Olivia Tillman, Tré Boyd, and Dyon Brooks.

Perry tells Tudum that he loves working with actors who he’s directed before. “To have them all coming back together, I know what to expect,” he says. “I know the level of genius that they bring together. I know the level of comedy and fun. So they made the whole world just sing and come to life for me.”

How does Miss Governor Part 1 end?

Miss Governor Part 1 ends with Antoinette standing on business and reclaiming her agency. She looks into hiring her own staff, publicly opposes a state pipeline initiative at a press conference, and finally stands up to Governor Harper (Craighead). In other words, Lieutenant Governor Dunkerson is here representing herself and the people of Mississippi, like she’d always intended to do when she took office.

Perry thinks that Antoinette always had the feeling that “enough was enough” inside of her. “Sometimes you just have to get to a point where you just stand up and do it,” he says. “To see her find her voice after the relentless taunting of her mother and her children and her friends in that moment [feels] really good. It was good for me to see. I enjoyed it. Terri Vaughn is incredible at playing Antoinette.”

After she gives the governor a piece of her mind, though, a horde of government clerks rush into his office calling for an ambulance … we’ll just have to see what that means for Antoinette in Part 2!

Who is the creative team behind Miss Governor?

Perry is the writer, director, and producer of Miss Governor. Niya Palmer is co-creator of the series with Perry. Palmer, Keisha Lance Bottoms, and star Vaughn executive produce. Bottoms, formerly the mayor of Atlanta and an adviser to President Biden, brings her political experience to the project. Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland will also produce for Tyler Perry Studios.

What is the release date for Miss Governor Part 2?

Miss Governor will be sworn in this year. The first eight episodes are now streaming. The next eight will drop on Aug. 14.
