‘Outer Banks’ Final Season Filming Moves to Croatia as Production Nears Completion
Filming on the new season has been ongoing since the Summer but it’s new trip to Croatia is catching headlines for the wrong reasons…

Outer Banks is heading international again in season 5. For the past week or so, the production has been filming in the sunny location of Croatia with a number of high-profile cast members, such as Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Chase Stokes, J.D., Drew Starkey, Carlacia Grant, and J. Anthony Crane, also spotted on set. It’s not gone entirely to plan, though…
We first got wind of the production moving to Croatia a fortnight ago, with photos beginning to hit the wires (and reposted by several fan accounts) throughout this week. It’s filming in the wide open in Dubrovnik in Croatia —the same location Game of Thrones used throughout its run on HBO for King’s Landing. The cast can be seen out in the open with lots of public also there, presumably on vacation, around the iconic Rector’s Palace. Our understanding is that the location is being used as a stand-in for Lisbon, Portugal.
The show’s cast going on an excursion to another country isn’t entirely new. In season 4, the series notably moved filming to Morocco for a portion of the season. The majority of season 5, however, has been filmed in its usual location of South Carolina. Filming was initially due to wrap just before Christmas, but whether that’s still the plan is unclear.
As now widely covered and first broken by TMZ, production on the set isn’t entirely going to plan, with the gossip mag accusing the show’s co-creator of “grabbing” one of the crew members, and only de-escalated when two of the show’s stars got involved.
Netflix previously declined to comment on the move to Croatia and said they wouldn’t be able to confirm any locations until after the series had wrapped. Trades who reached out to Netflix about the incident detailed by TMZ didn’t receive a response. We had planned on holding off, but with the news widely out there, our hand was forced.
Netflix also just reiterated the final season’s release date on the streamer overnight, with Ted Sarandos citing it among 10 other major returning titles confirmed for 2026.

Ultimately, it’s a shame that Outer Banks will now have a bit of a cloud hanging over it as it approaches the final season, just confirmed to hit our screens in 2026, but fingers crossed the show can go out with a bang.
