As you’re probably aware, awards season is now officially underway, with some of the world’s biggest stars out in force on Sunday night for the Golden Globes.

Among the nominees was the cast of Wicked, including Ariana Grande — who has won critical acclaim for her performance as Glinda in the Jon M. Chu movie.
Ariana was nominated in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture category, with the award ultimately going to Zoe Saldaña for her performance in Emilia Pérez.
Still, Ari appeared to wholeheartedly enjoy the night with her Wicked costars, having a fun exchange with Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh when they took to the stage to present an award, and even recreating the viral “holding space” interview moment with Cynthia Erivo.

However, there is a particular Ariana moment from the Golden Globes that has caught people’s attention, with social media users being left completely stunned by an inappropriate question that the star was asked on the red carpet.
During an interview with Access Hollywood, Ariana was asked who the first person she called when she found out she was nominated for a Golden Globe was.
“Oh my goodness,” Ari began. “Well, my mom-”

At this point, the host cut the star off mid-sentence to bluntly ask: “Your grandmother still alive?”
“Yes, my Nonna, she’s 99,” Ariana replied. “Nonna was second.”
And while Ari herself breezed over the question like a pro, the interview has caused a stir on X as
In a tweet that has been seen more than 900k times and wracked up tens of thousands of likes and retweets, a user simply shared the video clip and wrote: “THIS IS SICK???????#]%{^{*{+”
“like srsly what was she gonna do if she said no 😭😭😭😭,” the same user added in a separate tweet.
“why would she ask that 😭😭😭” another person replied, while somebody else echoed: “that is such a risky question, why would she ask that 😭”
“Such an insane question to ask on a red carpet 😭” one more added in a quote tweet.

It is well known that Ariana is incredibly close to her “Nonna,” Marjorie Grande, who made history last year as the oldest person to chart on the Hot 100 after Ari featured her on her track “Ordinary Things.”

And following Wicked’s release, Ariana flew to her home city of Boca Raton, Florida, for just one day so that she could watch the movie with Nonna at the theater she grew up going to as a child.
Notably, Nonna is actually the person who first introduced Ariana to Wicked when she took her to see the stage show way back in 2003.
In the past, Nonna has joined Ariana at red-carpet events, but it is thought that she was unable to travel to attend any of the official Wicked premieres around the globe following her 99th birthday in October.
Instead, Ari brought a screening to her, with the two joined by Ariana’s brother, Frankie Grande, boyfriend and costar, Ethan Slater, as well as her mom — Nonna’s daughter — Joan Grande.
Nonna looked overwhelmed with pride for her granddaughter in social media posts that were shared by Ariana at the time, with Frankie reposting one of them to add: “This was one of the most special moments in my life. I will remember it & cherish it til I’m 99 too.”
