Rachel Zegler finds a bright spot when being criticized for her role as Snow White “If people like it, I can do more movies”

Rachel Zegler

The moment Rachel Zegler was cast as beloved Disney princess Snow White in the upcoming live action remake, she faced backlash online from people who slammed her for participating in a “dated” story and the fact that she’s a non-white actress. Fast forward to 2025, and Zegler sees the initial backlash as something positive.

“I interpret people’s sentiments towards this film as passion,” she told Vogue Mexico, according to Us Weekly. “What an honor to be a part of something that people feel so passionately about. We’re not always going to agree with everyone who surrounds us and all we can do is our best.”

“I understand that the conversation comes from the community not wanting to be seen as a monolith, but the reality of being Latino and working in this industry is that we try to represent the entire diaspora,” Zegler added. “I know where I’ve been, I represent it in my narrative, and I carry it in my heart every day. No one can ever tell me that it’s not a part of me.”

Starring alongside Zegler in the Marc Webb-directed “Snow White” is Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen and Andrew Burnap as the leading man (not the Huntsman or prince).

Disney’s Live Action Remake Of ‘Snow White’ Hits Theaters On March 21, 2025

Released in 1937, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” marked Disney’s first animated feature film! Now, nearly 100 years later, the classic is getting a makeover. For one, Oscar-winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (“Dear Evan Hansen” and “The Greatest Showman”) penned all new songs for the film’s soundtrack, according to Us Weekly. But perhaps the biggest change lies within the plot itself. This time around, Snow White isn’t waiting around for some handsome prince to come save her. Instead, she faces Evil Queen head on. Also, in the 2025 live-action remake, Snow White’s name doesn’t refer to having “skin as white as snow.”

“It fell back to another version of ‘Snow White’ that was told in history, where she survived a snowstorm that occurred when she was a baby,” Zegler told Variety in an October 2024 interview. “And so the king and queen decided to name her Snow White to remind her of her resilience. One of the core points in our film for any young woman or young person is remembering how strong you actually are.”

Is ‘Snow White’ Available To Stream?

To see Zegler’s “Snow White” transformation, you’ll have to purchase a movie ticket at a theater near you, but Disney films usually hit Disney+ 90 days after their theatrical release. Since “Snow White” is slated for a March 21 release, look for it to hit the streaming platform in late June.
