Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s royal future has been revealed amid the huge news that King Charles is stripping his brother Prince Andrew of all royal titles.

As the daughters of a son of the late Queen Elizabeth, PEOPLE understands that Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35, will retain their royal titles in accordance with King George V’s Letters Patent of 1917. They both remain princesses and continue to have the styling of Her Royal Highness.

Andrew shares his adult daughters with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, whom he divorced in 1996 but remains friendly with.

On Oct. 30, Buckingham Palace released the seismic statement about the King’s younger brother. It explained that he will now be called Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and has been ordered to surrender his lease at Royal Lodge, his longtime home.

“His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew,” the statement said.

“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease, and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him,” it continued.

“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” the message concluded, referring to King Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla.

The updates come after Andrew released the shocking statement on Oct. 17 that he was relinquishing use of his royal titles and honors amid renewed scrutiny of his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. He made the Oct. 17 statement before the publication of a posthumous memoir by Virginia Giuffre on Oct. 21, who alleged in the book that Epstein trafficked her to the prince.

Andrew’s step back from public life was set in motion in November 2019, when he gave an interview to BBC’s Newsnight about the depth of his connection to Epstein, a convicted sex offender, who died in prison while awaiting trial earlier that year.

Andrew stepped back from his formal royal role days after that interview aired, and in January 2022, Queen Elizabeth stripped her second son of his military titles and patronages after a judge rejected his attempt to have Giuffre’s sexual assault lawsuit against him dismissed.

He settled with Giuffre out of court for an undisclosed sum, and she died by suicide in April at age 41.

Andrew will now go by Mountbatten Windsor, the royal family’s surname for direct descendants of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

When Andrew announced on Oct. 17 that he was surrendering his royal titles, as it distracts from the work of the King and the wider royal family, PEOPLE understood that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s titles and positions were wholly unaffected.
