On Tuesday’s episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg makes a point but clarifies it to dispel any rumors it may cause for her daughter since this was not the first time

Whoopi Goldberg clarified two things on the The View on Tuesday’s episode, and one of those was her daughter’s sexuality.

The View’s episode, that aired on November 11, had Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin on the panel. They began a discussion based on a point made by Yale psychiatrist Amanda Calhoun on Joy Reid’s MSNBC show, The ReidOut, on November 8. The psychiatrist pushed back on the idea that family is entitled to a person’s time no matter what especially in the midst of the election. She added that it’s okay not to be around the people who “voted against your livelihood.”

Whoopi chimed in that wouldn’t want to her child to be in the position of being around someone who tells them they are wrong because of how they feel and that they shouldn’t be who they are.

“I don’t want to put my gay child in a position where she has to sit with someone who doesn’t understand her and feels like it’s okay to blurt all that stuff but that’s just me.” Whoopi continued with another example.

She added that there she agreed that there are certain things a person shouldn’t have to put their family in the middle. She suggested rescheduling any dinners for another time since it might not be the time currently to get together because of tension. This is when she clarified that she’s not tense and her daughter is not gay.

“I’m not tense. My daughter is not gay, I just want to say that so my daughter doesn’t say ‘Ma, why you spreading rumors about me again,'” she said.

Whoopi has one daughter, Alexandrea “Alex” Martin Dean, who she shares with her first husband Alvin Martin. Alex is an actress and producer. She has three children with husband Bernard Dean, daughters Amara and Jerzey and son Mason.

The rest of the panel also discussed this point and shared their perspective on family versus political views. Ana encouraged viewers to “do what’s best for you.” She also elaborated how her husband for example who voted for Kamala unlike majority of his family but is maintaining the relationship for his grandchildren.

Alyssa and Sara were on the side of not letting politics come before your family. Sunny agreed with Amanda’s point and said it’s a “moral issue” for her.
