A mother of three has tragically died after being declared brain dead due to complications with her “mummy makeover” plastic surgery.
Rachel Tussey, 47, was pronounced dead on Tuesday after she underwent a tummy tuck surgery on February 25 that left her with brain damage due to a lack of oxygen.
The mum from Cincinnati, Ohio, updated her 78,000 TikTok followers just before going under the knife and said she was in “good hands”.
“I know it’s going to be great, and I’ve waited a really long time for this,” she said.
However, despite her doctor’s declaring the surgery went well, her husband Jeremy Tussey said she deteriorated quickly.
As she was recovering, Ms Tussey was given medication by the nurse to manage her pain, including fentanyl.
Mr Tussey said in a video posted to her TikTok page that her face turned an “off colour” and she became unresponsive shortly after the pain medication was administered.
“It didn’t seem like much sense of urgency with her lips being blue,” he said.
The nurses then called the surgeon who instructed the team to call an ambulance. She was rushed to Bethesda North hospital where she was put on life support.
“She was administered too much medicine,” Mr Tussey said on TikTok. “Somebody dropped the ball and killed my wife.”
Mrs Tussey spent the following days on a ventilator under sedation before her husband made the heartbreaking decision to remove her from life support on March 5.
“Rachel fought bravely with her family by her side, but the extent of the damage left her with very minimal brain activity,” her family wrote on a GoFundMe page.
On Tuesday, Mr Tussey made a follow-up post on GoFundMe confirming that she had died.
“Last night, my wife Rachel lost her battle while in hospice care.”
“Rachel was an amazing wife, mother, and person who touched so many lives. We will carry her memory with us always.”
