📌 Streaming now — don’t miss the show that’s cracking cases and the Top 10.

The ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ star is back on ABC with plenty more cases to solve.
High Potential, based on the French series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel, ended its first season early with a Feb. 11 finale as it was only able to produce 10 episodes as series star Kaitlin Olson was committed to several other projects, including Hacks and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The crime dramedy follows Morgan Gillory (Olson), a single mother of three with a genius-level IQ. We first see her working as a cleaner for the Los Angeles Police Department, but when she one night solves a crime on the white board while cleaning, she catches the attention of Major Crimes’ Lieutenant Selena Soto (Judy Reyes), who hires her as a consultant, much to the chagrin of detective Adam Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), who ends up as her partnered.
So, while the season may have been short, it ended on a high note with two big cliffhangers: Morgan’s long-thought dead husband, Roman, who has been missing for 15 years is alive; and there’s a potential big bad coming for Morgan next season who left her the scary note: “You’re the one, Morgan. We shall play again. Me and you.”
“I think the things that people were loving about the show are going to stay and hopefully even get better, and the things they have a big appetite for that we barely did last year are going to bloom,” showrunner Tom Harthan told TV Guide. “In this little villain story, there’s some twists and turns coming. I love to go, ‘What do I expect if I was an audience member?’ I like to really turn the dials and give you something unexpected, so I’m excited for all of it.”

Who is joining the cast of High Potential for Season 2?
Steve Howey as Captain Jesse Wagner

Steve Howey has joined the crime drama as the precinct’s new captain Jesse Wagner. According to Deadline, Wagner’s a savvy political animal who knows how to wear an expensive suit and oozes effortless charm. Besides a guy who can launch a million fundraisers with his smile, he has disruptor tenacity and likes thinking outside the box just like their all-star consultant Morgan. He has a way of putting himself right in the middle of the action… whether he’s wanted there or not.
Mekhi Phifer

Variety reports that Phifer will join Season 2 of High Potential in a recurring guest star role as a character who becomes involved in major crimes. More than that is currently being kept under wraps.
How did Season 1 of High Potential end?
It ended on a chilling note with the serial killer, played by David Giuntoli, bumping into Morgan at the grocery store. It wasn’t until she got home and was unpacking her groceries that she discovered he placed a very scary note on a deck of cards in her shopping bag: “You’re the one, Morgan. We shall play again. Me and you.”
“I love a good serialized villain,” Harthan told TVLine. “I also love going into a Season 2 where there might be another surprise or two, so it’s a bit of an open box.”
But before that disturbing note, there was a little romance in the air when Morgan reconnected with Tom (JD Pardo), the former LAPD janitor who had driven up from San Diego, where he’s attending nursing school, to attend the police gala and claim a dance. To do so, he interrupted her slow dance with Karadec, which also looked as if there might be something going on there as well.
And then the coup de grâce was Karadec calling Morgan to tell her that her husband Roman is still alive and he knows where he is.
Are there any spoilers for Season 2 of High Potential?
The one thing that won’t happen in Season 2 of High Potential is Morgan and Karadec becoming a couple. It’s not that it will never happen, but Harthan likes the slow build of couples like on shows such as Bones and Castle.
Harthan told TV Guide, “I’ll never take [Morgan and Karadec becoming romantic] off the table because in a long-running series, you never know. I just love this blooming loyalty and friendship. And, yes, it happens to be a gorgeous man and a gorgeous woman, but does that mean they’re going to cross a line anytime soon? I don’t think so.”
The search for Roman will continue, although it’s unclear if he will be found in Season 2.
“I think it has to kick up a notch,” Harthan told TVLine. “If I keep it at the same level, just dipping our toe in the water instead of jumping into the pool, that’s the kind of thing that might frustrate the audience. So, I think we have to find meaningful upgrades and give them bigger bites of story, if you will, in Season 2. It’ll be a little bit of a deeper dive.”
Harthan also shared that he plans to delve deeper into the individual backstories of each character going forward.
How to watch High Potential
