Reba McEntire’s mother, Jacqueline McEntire, lived a quiet life outside of the spotlight for the most part. But did you know she once appeared in a guest role on her famous daughter’s sitcom, Reba?
According to IMDb, the year was 2005, and the elder McEntire appeared on Reba in Season 4, Episode 17, titled “The Pageant of Grandmas,” in a role credited as “Grandma Lauren.”
“Jake’s school is holding a beauty pageant — with grandmothers! Jake asks Reba, but of course Barbra Jean wants to also do it,” IMDb describes the episode. “Jake really wants his mother in, so both are in. On the day of the pageant, they find out only one can be in it.”
Reba McEntire turned to social media on Friday (Aug. 16) to share a clip from the episode, writing, “Did y’all know my Mama made a cameo on the Reba show in our fourth season? I still get a kick out of this!”
Jacqueline McEntire appears in a small role with no dialogue, but it’s a memorable moment, as her character offers up a hilarious assessment after Reba asks her who’s really the “hotter” grandmother:
Jacqueline McEntire was a singer herself, and she taught her kids to sing, but devoted her life to teaching. Reba was set to follow her into that profession before she scored her record deal.
Jacqueline McEntire died in March of 2020 at the age of 93 after battling cancer. Reba turned to social media to remember her, writing that she had “a wonderful, full, healthy life and was absolutely ready to go.”
McEntire paid tribute to her beloved mother in a song titled “You Never Gave Up on Me,” which appeared on her 2019 album, Stronger Than the Truth.
