More Morgan WallenMorgan Wallen’s original, full audition on The Voice from 2014 has resurfaced on social media, thanks to the Instagram account Country Bits.
Ten years ago, Wallen was an unknown artist – not the world-dominating country star he is today – who auditioned for season six of The Voice with a rendition of Howie Day’s Collide. Wallen, then 20 years old, elicited chair turns from coaches Shakira and Usher. Curiously, he didn’t receive a chair turn from Blake Shelton.
Before Wallen chose the R&B star as his coach, Usher said, “You have something that is very unique. There’s not quite a voice like yours on The Voice.”
However, Wallen wasn’t with Usher for long, with Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine stealing him in the next round. He didn’t make it past the Playoffs stage.
Morgan Wallen fans packed the comment section of the Country Bits Instagram post, with one Instagram user writing, “Imagine not turning around for Morgan Wallen. Big mistake. Huge.” Another fan exclaimed, “How was he not a four-chair turn!!” and was backed by another user, who wrote, “The biggest success to go through the voice.”
You can watch the footage of pre-fame Morgan Wallen auditioning for The Voice below.
After his stint on The Voice, Wallen went on to sign with Big Loud in 2016 and, in 2018, released his debut album, If I Know Me. 2021 saw Wallen drop his follow-up album, Dangerous: The Double Album, and his third album, One Thing At A Time, was released last year. The rest, as they say, is history.
A few weeks ago, Wallen partnered with singer and rapper Post Malone on the collaborative single, I Had Some Help.
Upon its release, I Had Some Help debuted at #1 in Australia, Canada, Ireland, Norway, and the US (#1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the US Hot Country Songs chart). It also reached the top five in Denmark, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, and the UK.
Wallen was due to open his Nashville bar, This Bar And Tennessee Kitchen, on Memorial Weekend. The opening was postponed.
