While talking to Andy Cohen about Swift’s success, McEntire looked back on her first impression of the then-rising star, and how she always knew she was destined for greatness.
“The first time I saw her on stage was the CMA Awards,” the Reba alum explained during an interview on Cohen’s SiriusXM radio show this week, as she recalled Swift’s performance at the 2007 award show.
“She was in cowboy boots and she was playing a guitar and she walked down the stairs and was singing this song to Tim McGraw, and Faith [Hill] was sitting beside him,” McEntire remembered, referencing Swift’s performance of her debut single titled “Tim McGraw.”
“I thought, ‘Oh my gosh this is her first song out, her first CMA, and she’s doing this?’ Superstar,” McEntire declared. “You bet.”
Also during the interview, the judge on The Voice said she thinks Swift’s success over the last few years is “wonderful,” especially after seeing how hard the “Karma” singer has worked to get to where she is today.
“She’s worked her but off from the very beginning,” the “Fancy” songstress said, adding, “I highly respect her.”
Nearly two decades after releasing her debut single, Swift has 11 studio albums in her music catalog. She has also earned 14 Grammy awards, including four wins for Album of the Year (Fearless, 1989, folklore and Midnights), the most of any solo artist in Grammy history.
