Reacher season 3 is here and so far, is as good as the show used to be back in season 1, now attracting a 100% from critics, which so far, I think it’s earned. But will the show perform well enough to get a season 4? About that…
There’s just no reason to worry about this at all, as Reacher got renewed for season 4 all the way back in October 2024, far earlier than season 3’s release date. Production has not yet begun, but we can estimate when it may arrive based on past release dates:
Reacher season 1: February 2022
Reacher season 2: December 2023
Reacher season 3: February 2025
So, as you can see, the first gap here is…decent. Season 1 to season 2 was one year ten months. However, Amazon Prime Video realized they had a big hit on their hands, and made sure season 3 did not have nearly that long of a wait. As such, season 3 got here just a year and two months after season 2. Now, if that happens again, we’re looking at an April 2026 release date for season 4, potentially, a much shorter gap than most other streaming series.
We do not know what book season 4 is going to adapt, but in past interviews, author Lee Child has talked about The Midnight Line, the 22nd book in the series that he’d really want to see made. Why?
“It was well-received, but The Midnight Line is one of my favorites because it was an opioid book, but it was written from the point of view of the addict with tremendous sympathy,” said Child. “I’m addicted to numerous things myself, and so I wanted to show it from the addicts’ point of view – make it sympathetic, make it human – and I’m proud of that book.”
“I wonder if it will ever get made. We have to see whether we ever choose that one, but I’d love to see how it comes out.”
There is no guarantee that this book is the one that’s adapted, and its structure is a departure from a typical Reacher set-up, so Amazon may be skeptical of it. Being the 22nd book doesn’t really matter as there’s no set order for these adaptations. Season 1 did in fact adapt book one, but season 2 was book 11 and now Persuader, adapted for season 3, was the seventh book. Though yes, book 22 would be skipping ahead a lot. But these are all relatively standalone cases as Reacher finds himself stumbling into trouble book after book. This was a purposeful decision by Child, he’s said interviews, wanting anyone to be able to pick up any of the books at any time with no previously knowledge of the series or character. I fully believe that Amazon plans to run close to yearly seasons of Reacher for 5, 6, 7+ years with so much source material and such a great audience redemption. We will likely hear more season 4 information soon.
