Warner Bros and Legendary Entertainment are set to start filming an untitled Tom Cruise project directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu in the UK, Variety reported.

While the exact start date has not been confirmed, sources suggest it could begin as early as next month.

It will mark Inarritu’s return to English-language cinema following his acclaimed work on “The Revenant.” He will be both the producer and director, working from a script he co-wrote in 2023 with his “Birdman” collaborators, Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, along with Sabina Berman.

The cast of the untitled film features a talented lineup, including Sandra Huller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, and Sophie Wilde.

The project marks Cruise’s first film since he signed a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery in January to develop and produce theatrical films. His last collaboration with the studio was a decade ago on “Edge of Tomorrow.”

Cruise starred in “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and “Top Gun: Maverick” in the recent past.

He has several upcoming projects in the pipeline, including the eighth installment of the “Mission: Impossible” series for Paramount and a Universal action film directed by Doug Liman. In the latter project, Cruise is set to become “the first civilian to do a spacewalk” outside the International Space Station.

Earlier this year, Warner Bros Discovery struck a deal with Cruise to develop and produce original and franchise theatrical films in 2024.

Across his five-decade career, Cruise’s movies have earned more than $12 billion globally, with the 2022 release of “Top Gun: Maverick,” grossing nearly $1.5 billion, according to measurement firm Comscore.

Inarritu has made a significant mark in the film industry, winning consecutive Academy Awards for Best Director for “Birdman” in 2015 and “The Revenant” in 2016.
