Now that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has finally entered a multi-franchise contract with Disney, it is safe to assume that we might finally get a chance to see The Rock join the MCU. Which, of course, leaves us with more speculations. Let’s see where we can see The Rock take his place in the massive mountain of a franchise that the MCU has become.
The Rock can easily fit the shoes of the likes of Luke Cage. A Hero for Hire, an Avenger, and a Defender with indestructible skin. Rock has even shown interest in playing the character; however, Cage is still a street-level hero, and Marvel’s current trajectory takes it on a cosmic path. Characters like The Juggernaut and Bishop also fit the former wrestler perfectly. One is a towering behemoth, and the other is a time-traveling mutant capable of energy manipulation. Still, Marvel wouldn’t want a star power like Dwayne to sit behind a mask. Since Dwayne has already played a Superman equivalent in DC, we can expect him to play Marvel’s Superman “Hyperion” or even Gladiator. Perhaps Gladiator will suit Rock more. With his charisma and confidence, Gladiator can be the perfect role for him.
Feige might even want him to be a central figure in “The Mutant Saga.” By now, we have all heard the rumors of The Rock being the MCU’s “Apocalypse.” As the First Mutant, Rock can be a pivotal figure in future projects as a recurring Thanos-like threat. Now the most alluring character would be if we can see The Rock play Ares, the God of War. Since the slot for Hercules (a version of which he has already played) is full, we can have the rock be his antagonist in a solo Hercules adventure.
We cannot also rule out the possibility that The Multiverse Saga can allow Dwayne to be anything—a Thanos variant or maybe a variant of Kraven the Hunter. It will be fun to see how the MCU utilizes Dwayne Johnson.
