Keanu Reeves might be the only celebrity left in Hollywood who hasn’t had a scandal. He’s had misfortune in his life, but he’s managed to avoid any other difficulties or drama by being one of the best humans to ever walk the earth, according to every fan’s account of their interactions with him. Other celebrities love Keanu too, and the few that don’t seem to be enamored by him face the wrath of his fans; Matthew Perry learned a hard lesson after name-dropping Reeves negatively.
But of course, Keanu didn’t seem to have anything to say on the matter, as he mostly keeps to himself. Nice guy or not, Keanu Reeves is at the level of fame that when he appears in public, one would assume he would immediately be ambushed by impassioned fans. Yet somehow, he moves around without really being accosted, unlike other celebs who attract paparazzi wherever they go and sic their security guards on people who get too touchy. In fact, Keanu doesn’t even seem to need security guards—but does he have them?
Does Keanu Reeves Have Body Guards?
As far as fans can tell, Keanu Reeves doesn’t seem to have a team of personal security guards. Unlike other celebrities, he’s typically photographed solo while out in public.
Other famous folks are typically flanked by serious-looking security personnel who elbow overzealous fans out of the way. Keanu, however, tends to move among the mortals much more discreetly.
He doesn’t seem to mind when fans ask for the occasional photograph, though he wasn’t thrilled about the whole Sad Keanu meme after he was snapped eating a sandwich on a bench.
But his visibility is one of the reasons fans assume Keanu doesn’t hire security staff. There may be guards on set when Keanu’s working or at industry events, but when he’s out on his own, he does stuff like rescues Octavia Spencer when her car breaks down and waits in the rain to be let into his own party.
Clearly, he doesn’t need someone to get the door or hold fans back. The question is, why?
Keanu Reeves Might Be His Own Body Guard
Fans’ hilarious theory proposes that Keanu may very well serve as his own bodyguard. Their first point? The fact that he knows all the martial arts and fighting techniques that his characters know; Keanu is well-known for insisting on studying martial arts instead of having stunt doubles or using CGI in his films.
Fans theorized that perhaps people in public are a bit intimidated by the fact that Keanu could kick their butts, so people typically give him some distance while he’s out in public. One wrote, “And with respect to security, I think more than a few people probably imagine that maybe, just maybe, he might actually be John Wick.”
Of course, that’s somewhat hard to believe, though, given how friendly and down-to-earth Reeves seems.
There’s another theory though: the fact that Keanu doesn’t hide from the public means he has a weird sort of anti-fame immunity from being mobbed by fans.
Some fans proposed that because Keanu god-among-humans just lives his life—no driving flashy cars or drawing attention to himself, but also not trying to hide—people just let him be.
To give fans who do spot Keanu in the wild more credit, maybe his fans are just as well-behaved as the actor is. Or, maybe they’re intimidated by his chill-ness, suggests one fan, leading them to believe that it’s not really Keanu because how could it possibly be, just a super-famous, super-rich celebrity walking down the street?
Acting Like A Regular Person Might Be Keanu’s Trick
InstarMaybe most people who see Keanu on the street do a double-take, but they also make the decision to respect that Reeves doesn’t want attention, isn’t out to be hounded by the paparazzi, and isn’t about to perform on the spot or peel out in a sports car.
There’s also the fact that some celebrities have been accused of “leaking” information about where they’ll be and with whom. Clearly, Reeves doesn’t engage in that kind of behavior. He also doesn’t egg the paparazzi on by posing, getting angry, or trying to trick them out of a photo.
The actor also has another thing going for him, reputation-wise; a fan wrote that Keanu “doesn’t get into public spats or beefs,” so he’s drama free, noting, “Basically Reeves minds his own business and doesn’t allow his personal problems to get to the point where a bodyguard is necessary.”
On top of that, Keanu doesn’t wear a bunch of bling while biking down the street or riding the subway. He’s not flashy with his impressive wealth, so would-be criminals are probably not going to waste their time trying to jump the most-loved man on the planet.
