there’s no easy way to say this but

elves aren’t black

that’s I don’t know how to I don’t know

how to word that in a more literally

correct way or something that’s you know

sensitive to people’s feelings but it’s

just it’s true I’ve heard this right

yeah no Black Ops but in fantasy in

general because I’m not a huge lore

person for Lord of the Rings but I know

in fantasy in general we have dark elves

right dunmer and that’s a very standard

thing in fantasy that you have dark

elves

so seeing this is not in any way

surprising to me I don’t even think

about it like this is completely normal

I just think he’s a more of like a dark

elf kind of guy here it doesn’t bother

me that there’s diversity in this show

what does bother me is whether or not it

feels like it came from tolkien’s

writings right and he wrote Lord of the

Rings specifically for England

specifically he wanted them because they

had lost a lot of their mythologies

over the years and so he wanted to write

a mythology for them the Greeks had

their mythologies and the Romans had

theirs and he wanted to write like an

English mythology yeah yeah so you have

space in in Middle Earth for all sorts

of races but you know this is another

original character what what bothers me

I think more is is something that

bothers me actually with a lot of the

elves that we see in this show and

that’s the hairstyles they don’t look

Elven so the the Aesthetics I would say

it’s a yes it’s a little out of place

but I don’t have an issue with the

diversity in it I have an issue with it

doesn’t look like Tolkien it looks

generic fantasy right and where is this

guy getting his hair done like this is

not an easy haircut you just do with a

sword or something like how is he

hitting his right I mean how did how do

this way

but how is he getting this kind of a

short haircut on top I mean maybe he

like shaved his head in a week later you

know it’s grown up a little bit yeah

look how look how clean and tight this

is this is definitely like it’s very

clean it’s very clean like that’s why

elves generally they have longer hair or

it’s like tied back or something like I

would almost exclusively they have long

hair I wouldn’t have an issue if this

guy looked like Heimdall from

the Thor movies right

yeah specifically Thor Ragnarok where

he’s got those dreads and he’s got it

like tied back that would look really

cool and I would think that would look

Elven I think even the woods of the The

House of the Dragon they’ve got some

characters in there that are kind of

like fantasy and they’re they got some

black guys that have that kind of it’s

long hair but it’s in dreads and it’s

tied back and it looks better like it’s

just kind of warrior-esque it looks

fantasy this doesn’t look fantasy this

looks like a guy who’s cosplaying and

didn’t want to get a wig right right

and so I think the shot is cool him

catching the arrow and firing it I kind

of wish it was done in real time you

know I feel like the slow-mo’s a little

but yeah generally we’re gonna see that

we’re gonna see black black dwarf you

know uh the black dwarf Princess uh in

in photos and we’re gonna see a lot of

a lot of these storylines I hope they

don’t make anything about race like if

if it’s going to be about race that is

definitely token built

racial stories in here but they were

between literally different races of

being like yeah different species or

whatever you want to go yeah yeah

they’re between dwarves and elves

they’re between humans and elves they’re

you know there’s there’s a lot of uh

there’s a lot of those kinds of themes

but my my fear is that they’ll make it

into something the push him a modern

narrative into it which is something

Tolkien would not have wanted yeah I

have no issue with there being a diverse

cast I think that’s great

um as a as more of an after a more of a

casual fan but yeah I don’t want to see

a race thing because they did that like

you said between dwarves and that I feel

like that he was already touching on it

with those and told good stories because

like you said dwarves and elves they

don’t like each other uh normally but we

have Gimli and Legolas who developed a

friendship between races you know yeah

great story that’s a great storyline

yeah so hopefully we see that and

uh yeah I think politics always works

its way into these shows but I really

don’t want they shouldn’t though that’s

the point political thing to be a part

of the show and and there’s there’s some

there’s something else to uh I I will

say that this character’s involvement I

have concerns with it for from what I

understand about the story that they’re

using him with but it’s not for what

we’re talking about like we see these

editions and it’s just like they’re kind

of like warning signs for what we’ve

seen in shows before but I don’t think

that they’re going to be taking this

angle with this character I just want to

be very clear with that I don’t think

that’s it’s going to be a thing I would

prefer if they’re going to add a bunch

of diverse characters for them not even

to discuss for them to just pretend like

everyone is normal everyone view

everyone is normal and your race

relations should not be inside your own

you know like men shouldn’t be fighting

with other men about well they’re you

know this color and I’m that color like

I would rather it stay on the lines of

what Tolkien wrote which was that is

between these different elves and

dwarves and that’s where I would want it

to stay

yeah yeah I think we all agree on that I

think

um some fans are going to be much more

like oh Tolkien never had you know all

the albums were very very foreskin

blonde hair and some people will have an

issue with that based on you know the

the lore of the show but and I think a

lot of people are not going to care and

a lot of people are going to like that

and I think that’s okay that Amazon is

trying to Market toward a modern

audience

um and having a diverse cast I think

that’s fine but like you said don’t make

it a big deal about that just like act

like yeah like this is normal yeah I I

and I will say that you didn’t have to

make a diverse to Market it to a global

audience though people already like Lord

of the Rings before it was diverse

exactly and given that he he kind of

built this section of Middle Earth

at on a map like it was England and

France England and France and and that

part of Europe like and the fact that to

the South and to the east you had people

that looked like when you go south and

east from Europe right so and that’s

kind of how he built it so it was very

intentional so the fact that they’re

adding this in is just like another

thing like okay well you know I hope

that that doesn’t it’s just endangering

it like getting off track like we’re

gonna get off track away from tolkien’s

themes

and into some other territory this kind

of scary territory like The Wheel of

Time did this stuff where they changed a

bunch from the original from the book

and so they’re not even adapting a

Tolkien story necessarily it’s a lot of

original characters and that’s what kind

of concerns me yeah about this is where

are they going with this if they told

some random story in Middle Earth that

had nothing to do with what we already

know and exist in all these characters

and I would have a lot less thoughts

about it because it’s like all right

well this story’s never been told and I

guess this could have existed but I

think it must do bull strip the point

you just made Tolkien already wrote

about these characters these settings

these places these people everything he

already wrote about them we already have

uh kind of guide rails and and markers

for them and so it is it’s just

concerning that

um you’re I’m worried because I love

Lord of the Rings so I also love

tolkien’s writings like these were books

before they were movies you know Star

Wars started as a movie and then

everyone colored in everything else

after that these started as books and

then they were adapted so I really don’t

want

this to turn into the garbled mess that

Star Wars is because there’s a lot more

room with Star Wars because fans Timothy

Zahn wrote most of the Canon that I care

about after the original trilogy that

wasn’t George Lucas that was a different

dude but Tolkien already wrote all of

these books before movies ever came out

yeah that is a good point I wanted the

state of that for most people it won’t

matter but for you know the really big

fans it’s going to be a big deal and

that’s what’s yeah exactly right Amazon

knows most people aren’t going to care

and a lot of people are going to watch

this a lot of people who have only ever

seen the the uh Peter Jackson movies

never read a Lord of the Rings book in

their entire life and they’re gonna love

this but then there’s gonna be if they

go certain directions that it’s worrying

they might it’s going to upset a lot of

fans including me but we don’t know yet
