Well, it is an iconic city
With Fallout 5 currently in development at Bethesda and will release in, well, at least the next decade, fans have begun speculating as to where the next entry could take place.
Taking place across the United States in various post-nuclear war-torn cities, the Fallout franchise has made a name for itself in the RPG genre.
So far, since Fallout was released back in 1997, Bethesda has taken fans to North and South California, Washington, the Mojave Desert, Boston and L.A. and with so many iconic locations under its belt, it begs the question as to where Fallout 5 will take us.
Now according to one fan over on r/Fallout, San Francisco would make the perfect setting for the next Fallout instalment.
The fan in question, who is also the biggest fan of San Fran by the looks of it, shared a detailed response as to why the fourth-most populous city in the U.S. should take centre stage.
“Like all of the locations of previous Fallout games, San Francisco is rich in American history (civil and military),” they explained.
“California was captured by the US during the Mexican American war, then shortly after was the California Gold Rush of 1849. The forty-niners! Manifest destiny! The spirit of the pioneer! Gold!”
As you can see, they are pretty excited about the idea and shared some iconic San Fran locations that could experience the post-nuclear treatment.
These include The Golden Gate Bridge, of course, as well as Alcatraz, Lombard Street, Fort Funston and many more.
“It also has a very famous Chinatown (I think it is the oldest in North America). Maybe there could be a communist underground faction/quest line”, they continued.
The Reddit post garnered almost 40 comments with some fellow Fallout fans also seeing the vision.
“I’m in. I lived there for 35 years and would love to explore the old stomping grounds in the Fallout universe,” one comment read.
However, others were not so sure.
“I very much doubt it. San Fran is a civilized place and it’s surrounded by the NCR, a stable nation state. Most people haven’t even seen a raider. If it were to happen there then it would be a political thriller rather than a conventional Fallout.”
However, with Fallout 5 not expected for a few years yet, we still have plenty of time to muse about its potential location.
