Pirates of the Caribbean star, Johnny Depp, has had an amazing career in Hollywood. Depp’s films have grossed incredible amounts of money, and because of this, the actor has collected massive paychecks.

In 2013, Johnny Depp was riding high in Hollywood, and the actor landed a role in a film that paid him $10 million. It was a nice payday, but the film was a colossal failure, and it nearly derailed Depp’s career, while souring people on its lead actor.

Let’s take a look at Depp’s career highs, and how this notable low nearly sank the performer.

Johnny Depp Has Had A Major Career At The Box Office With Major Blockbusters

In the enchanting realm of Hollywood, where dreams come to life and narratives transport us to uncharted dimensions, one name has etched itself as an irreplaceable gem – Johnny Depp. With his chameleon-like abilities and a penchant for immersing himself in roles, Depp has not just conquered the box office, but has also engraved his legacy onto the celluloid tapestry.

As Captain Jack Sparrow, Depp sailed his way into the hearts of millions. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest saw him reprise his role as the witty and rum-loving pirate. With a swashbuckling $1.07 billion in global box office treasure, this installment stands as one of Depp’s most remarkable successes. In fact, the Pirates franchise, as a whole, remains perhaps the brightest feather in Depp’s cap.

Venturing beyond the seven seas, Depp stepped into the whimsical world of Alice in Wonderland as the Mad Hatter. The film’s $1.03 billion global box office tally stands as a testament to Depp’s ability to breathe life into even the quirkiest of characters.

Clearly, Depp knows how to pick a winner, but he’s had some notable misfires. One, in particular, made him a fortune, while simultaneously tanking at the box office.

Johnny Depp Made $10 Million For The Lone Ranger, Which Was A Major Flop

In 2013, Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer starred in The Lone Ranger, a film that sought to revitalize classic characters from yesteryear. The problem? No one asked for this movie, and no one bothered showing up when it was released.

Depp, however, was excited to play the iconic Tonto.

Said Depp about his character, “I like the character. I think I have interesting plans for the character, and I think the film itself could be entertaining and very funny. But also I like the idea of having the opportunity to make fun of the idea of the Indian as a sidekick—which has always been [the case] throughout the history of Hollywood.”

According to multiple reports, Depp was able to secure about $10 million for his role in the movie. Mind you, he has commanded much more than that for other projects, but we will get to that soon enough.

According to Variety, the film could have lost up to 9 figures.

“Disney said during its third quarter fiscal earnings call that it expects to lose between $160 million and $190 million from the disappointing performance of “The Lone Ranger.”

“The charges will be part of Disney’s fiscal fourth quarter results, which wrap up in September, according to Disney chief financial officer Jay Rasulo,” the site reported.

Depp, of course, did not have his career ruined by the flick, but it certainly tainted his image as a sure thing at the box office.

Nevertheless, Depp has still been able to make bank as a box office star.

Johnny Depp Has Pulled Down Even Larger Salaries

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Johnny Depp is worth an estimated $150 million, and the driving force behind his wealth has been his movie checks.

“His annual salary in some years has been known to top $100 million, easily making him one of the highest paid actors on the planet. A lawsuit against his former business managers would reveal that between 2003 and 2016 alone, Johnny earned $650 million in salaries, backend profits and endorsement contracts,” the site reports.

The site notes that Depp made up to $55 million for the third Pirates movie alone!

Endorsements have also been kind to the actor.

“In August 2022 Johnny reportedly signed a multi-year “seven figure” endorsement contract extension with Dior,” the site reports.

Even with a lavish lifestyle and insane spending habits, Depp has generated enough income to last multiple lifetimes, and it’s largely thanks to his work on the big screen.

The Lone Ranger was a disastrous misfire for Johnny Depp, but we’re sure that making $10 million from the picture helped him sleep better at night as the film struggled at the box office.
