‘Agatha All Along’ premiered last week with its first two episodes, receiving mixed reactions—critics were largely unfavorable, while audiences offered praise. Although the show’s Rotten Tomatoes score has since leveled out, it faced an attempted review-bombing early on.
Now that the initial viewership numbers are in, the outlook appears grim, especially when compared to other recent popular series.
According to data from Variety, ‘Agatha All Along’ garnered 9.3 million views on Disney+ in its first seven days of streaming. While the data isn’t perfectly accurate, it offers a solid gauge of the show’s overall popularity.
Comparatively, ‘The Acolyte’ reached 11.1 million views in just five days, despite being noted for lower viewership after its first two episodes. ‘The Penguin,’ which debuted around the same time with only one episode, drew 5.3 million U.S. viewers across all platforms in its first four days.
‘The Rings of Power’ pulled in 40 million viewers in the first 11 days after premiering on Amazon Prime. Meanwhile, HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon’ season 2 attracted a much larger audience, boasting 7.8 million viewers within the first 24 hours, according to WBD and Nielsen data.
Clearly, ‘Agatha All Along’ averages the lowest viewership, but there’s a reasonable explanation. It seems unlikely Marvel Studios expected to break records with this show, which is geared toward a niche audience.
The typical MCU fan likely isn’t invested in Agatha, and your average comic book reader might not care for the character or the show’s musical theme, so record-breaking numbers were never expected. Still, viewership could rise, especially with the teased appearance of young Wanda and the confirmation of Mephisto’s existence in the MCU.
So far, the show’s plot hasn’t impacted the larger MCU narrative, which could explain why many fans aren’t tuning in.
