Wanda Maximoff in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with the statue of the Scarlet WitchAfter Agatha All Along episode 5, the MCU now has the perfect way to explain a mystery that first arose in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Following on from the events of WandaVisionDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness marked Wanda Maximoff’s transition into a bona fide villain, as she hunted down America Chavez in hopes of stealing her universe-jumping power. This mission led the Scarlet Witch to the Darkhold Castle on Mount Wundagore, where she learned more about her history and mysterious prophecy.

Agatha Harkness first explained the prophecy of the Scarlet Witch in WandaVision’s finale, which first introduced the Darkhold to the MCU. The original spells and dark knowledge of the Darkhold were transcribed from the walls of Mount Wundagore, where the demonic Chthon had engraved them. This included detailing the future of the Scarlet Witch, who was destined to either rule or destroy the world. However, Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch wasn’t the only subject of Chthon’s prophecy, as was revealed in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Wiccan Made A Brief Appearance In Doctor Strange 2

Julian Hilliard Played Wiccan In Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

Julian Hilliard first appeared as the Scarlet Witch’s son, Billy Maximoff, in WandaVision, and reprised the role to portray Billy’s variant on Earth-838 in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, the MCU’s official Wiccan also made a brief appearance in Multiverse of Madness, as a statue of the young hero was engraved into the walls of the Darkhold Castle alongside a statue of his mother. This implies that Wiccan may also be a key part of the Scarlet Witch’s prophecy, which is yet to come to fruition in the MCU.

While Julian Hilliard’s Billy Maximoff was a figment of the Scarlet Witch’s Hex around Westview, New Jersey, he seems to have been reincarnated into Joe Locke’s Agatha All Along character. This follows Wiccan’s narrative from Marvel Comics, as Billy Maximoff is reincarnated into Billy Kaplan after he was reabsorbed by the demon Mephisto. Agatha All Along episode 5, “Darkest Hour, Wake Thy Power,” seemed to confirm that Joe Locke’s “Teen” is indeed Wiccan, as he used his blue magic to throw Agatha, Lilia and Jennifer off the Witches’ Road.

Now that Joe Locke has been revealed to be playing Wiccan in the MCU, it seems very likely that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ mystery can finally be addressed. It has been implied that Wiccan is a key part of the Scarlet Witch’s prophecy, and he was evidently held in high regard by Chthon and the followers of the DarkholdAgatha All Along has the perfect opportunity to explore this side of the Darkhold’s prophecy, which could even create a chance for the Book of the Damned to return to the MCU.

Wiccan May Be The Key To Agatha Harkness Getting Her Power Back

Joe Locke’s Wiccan Could Be Connected To The Darkhold

Wiccan’s notoriety in the Darkhold – enough to encourage Chthon to carve a statue of the young hero into the walls of the Darkhold Castle – suggests that he may have a strong connection to the Book of Sins. This makes his appearance in Agatha All Along even more significant, as Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness also has a rich history with the Darkhold. However, the Scarlet Witch stole the Darkhold from Agatha in WandaVision, culminating in the destruction of the book and leaving Agatha powerless.

Agatha Harkness joined “Teen” on the Witches’ Road in an effort to get her power back. Joe Locke’s “Teen” being outed as Wiccan could provide a chance for the Darkhold to return to the MCU, which in turn would allow Agatha to regain her power. Wiccan’s connection to the Darkhold is yet to be unearthed, but Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness proved that it is powerful and important, so Agatha All Along may finally provide some much-needed answers. This may set up both Agatha Harkness and Wiccan as two of the MCU’s most formidable new magic-users.
