Marvel’s dive into the world of animation came with What If…?, a series that – like the comic book series of the same name – provided us with an alternative approach to well-known stories and well-known characters. Which was – in all honesty – a very refreshing take on the MCU and something we wanted to see, even if we had not been aware of it.
The series was a success, especially the first season, and we are now slowly heading toward the third season of the series. This will bring us even more exciting stories, which will – we are sure of it – be absolutely amazing.
In light of what, a recent interview with Matt Chauncey, who serves as Head of Story for the third seasons of What If…? and X-Men ‘97, revealed more information about the third season of What If…?. Based on what we know, it really does seem like the series has a lot in store for us!
Chauncey discussed both What If…? Season 3 and working on X-Men ’97, and when asked about the difference between these two shows, he said What If…? was ultimately more challenging from one perspective: “Writing What If…? feels like creating a new pilot every week. You have to build the world, define the character arcs, and wrap up the story all within one episode. It’s a huge challenge but also incredibly rewarding because each story gets to live on its own terms.”
But, while this is a general remark about the show as a whole, Chauncey also revealed two interesting pieces of information about the upcoming third season of the show, which is currently being prepared.
The first one is that the series would introduce a new, completely original character. They will appear in the third season of the show, but sadly, we don’t really have anything to tell you about them, as Chauncey kept quiet about it. He said that Marvel was very strict when it comes to spoilers, and this definitely is spoiler territory, so we can understand his hesitation in that aspect.
The second information is that the third season of What If…? is going to bring us a Marvel legend as well, i.e., a well-known character from the lore would be making their debut in the upcoming season.
As in the previous case, there are no spoilers and we don’t have any additional information, but we have some fan theories that we’d like to share:
Storm. It’s probably Storm. We’ve heard of this for months. Could be someone else though
