Actors appearing in different projects is nothing new. In fact, some actors even tend to appear in the same long-running project in different roles. While this is more often seen in TV series, it tends to happen in movies as well, especially when you have projects as large as the MCU, so it is not strange that one actor plays different roles in various projects.
And while the story we are about to provide you with today is not directly related to the MCU as a whole, it is related to Marvel’s adaptations, as one actress actually played two different roles in two different iterations of the Marvel comic book universe.
The actress in question is Olivia Munn, and you’ll probably remember that she played Psylocke in Fox’s X-Men universe, but did you know that she also appeared in the MCU, but in a very different role than the one we have for you now? Well, if you’ve forgotten that or did not even know it, you’ve come to the right place!
Olivia Munn, who recently showed her courage during a photo session in which she showed her mastectomy scars, is a well-known face in the entertainment industry, especially if you’re a fan of comic book adaptations.
While she is best known for playing Elizabeth Braddock / Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse, her other notable roles include The Lego Ninjago Movie, The Predator, and Ocean’s 8.
Psylocke actually helped her career a lot, and while it wasn’t her first role, it could definitely be described as a breakout one for the actress. And while you could argue that she did not properly capitalize on that, it is a topic for a completely different article. What interests us here is her career before Psylocke.
So, we know her as Psylocke, and the fans are calling for her to return to the role in the MCU, but did you know that Olivia Munn already appeared in the MCU? Six years before X-Men, actually! Take a look:
Okay, to be fair, this is a deleted scene, but we couldn’t find the original one online, so this one will do for the sake of our argument. And what argument is that? Well, the one that Olivia Munn appeared as reporter Chess Roberts in Iron Man 2, which was actually before her role as Psylocke and which, actually, was her MCU debut; many fans, as you can assume, have forgotten about this, and they went online to give us their comments (from Reddit):
If I recall correctly, Munn had a different part originally that was cut, so they added this in reshoots. I believe she was a random Stark groupie and appeared in bed during the Tony/Rhodes fight, so this seems like an improvement to me.

Keen eyes, nice find.👍
I’d love an Olivia Munn Psylocke – Elodia Yung Elektra match up in the MCU.

Nope. If memory serves me correct, she was originally supposed to be The Iron Maiden and would have attacked Iron Man before being defeated but due to rewrites, it was dropped and she just did a glorified cameo as herself.

Sure, why not? After escaping the X-Men and surviving Apocalypse’s defeat in 1983, Psylocke reinvents herself and becomes a TV reporter.

She is so damn perfect for the role. I hope they bring her back and actually do something with it.
