Disney’s most recent Star Wars project, The Acolyte, caused a great deal of controversy since its release because of several events and significant instances of review-bombing. The controversy surrounding this project eclipsed all prior Star Wars-related scandals, but the show managed to complete its first – and as it turned out, final – eight-episode season.
Although fans had been expecting a second season, it was recently revealed that Lucasfilm is not going to proceed with The Acolyte and that there won’t be a second season of the show. Naturally, this led to new discussions, with some people delighted that the show is coming to an end and others expressing their disappointment.
But, however you approach this issue, the fact remains that the show’s cancelation will leave the current Star Wars canon with a series of plot holes and unanswered mysteries, most of which will probably never get resolved, unless Lucasfilm decides to explain them in other works, but such works are not planned at the moment.
Let us be honest. Even if you’re happy that The Acolyte is over, this is a big problem as the series ended on a sort of cliffhanger, but definitely with a lot of unanswered questions. And while a lot of these questions won’t matter going forward – as characters such as Osha, Mae, or Qimir aren’t really part of the well-known Star Wars lore, so whether we find out how they perished (as they definitely did perish) or not won’t influence the overall narrative – there are some that are definitely important.

The above-shown tweet represents one such question. Yoda’s appearance in The Acolyte, while short, was significant, and knowing that Yoda is an extremely important part of the canon, it would have been important to find out what actually happened here and what the two Jedi talked about, especially since it would tie into the general storyline of the Old Republic.
Alongside Yoda’s role, there is also the unaddressed issue of Ki-Adi-Mundi appearing in the series, which definitely needs to be resolved at one point, as well as how all of this ties into the events of the Prequel Trilogy.
Darth Plagueis is another major mystery. We know his story from Palpatine’s telling and the novels, but The Acolyte was supposed to connect Plagueis to a young Palpatine, which won’t happen now, leaving a big question mark over the whole story, especially in terms of how Qimir, as Plagueis’ former apprentice, ties into this story.
Ultimately, the biggest issues that The Acolyte created are related to the Sith and the Jedi as an organization. We have talked about how the Jedi were not aware of the Sith existing at the time, yet there is no way that it could be true based on what we’ve seen in The Acolyte. At the same time, the version of the Sith history before the Prequel Trilogy as presented by Lucas himself doesn’t fit into the story that The Acolyte left us with.
We don’t know how Lucasfilm plans on tackling these and many other questions, but it definitely is an issue that needs to be addressed going forward.
