GTA 5’s Free Download Has Fans Absolutely Speechless: ‘It’s Too Good to Be True!’

GTA 5 free download leaves fans absolutely floored: 'it looks so good'

The official “enhanced” update for Grand Theft Auto V is finally here and, as is to be expected of the Rockstar Games fanbase, it’s mostly just getting people excited for Grand Theft Auto VI.

In case you missed it, Rockstar Games announced earlier last month that a new update for GTA V would be dropping on PC, with some features exclusive to the PC version of the game.

As of March 4, GTA V “Enhanced” can be yours to download, free of charge – and the fans are thrilled with the technical updates.

Over in a thread on the r/GTA6 subreddit, fans discussed the new “global illumination” features that have been added to the game.

“Really like how the RTGI looks, its very subtle but it adds a lot in certain scenes,” commented user SirSombieZlayer.

“Enjoying my latest playthrough of 5 story mode with the new RT features enabled, its nice to revisit the game.”

“Wait, the new update actually makes the graphics THIS much better?” replied user SomehowFriendless.

“Damn, I thought it’d be just expanded n enhanced for pc.”

Now if you don’t have any idea what these commenters are on about, they’re referring to the “ambient occlusion and global illumination” tech that was added with the update, exclusive to the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V.

Thankfully (for me), someone in the comments explained exactly how global illumination works better than I ever could.

“Global illumination is whats known as “bounce lighting”, when light hits a surface, some of it is absorbed and the rest bounces off and scatters in a million directions,” commented user miketastic_art.

“Notice in this picture the RED / ORANGE on the UNDERSIDE of the roof (ceiling) of the garage? In old games if we wanted this effect we faked it and created it by hand.”

When it’s explained like that, it makes me think we don’t appreciate the work game devs do as much as we probably should.

Either way, if Rockstar Games can make GTA V, a game that was released back in 2013, look this good… the sky really is the limit with GTA VI.
