Is Scarlet Witch Really Dead? & 8 Other Burning Questions From Agatha All Along

Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange 2 over an image of Kathryn Hahn in Agatha All AlongFollowing in the footsteps of WandaVisionAgatha All Along has entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a number of questions to answer. The relationship between Wanda and Agatha clearly remains an important part of the MCU story, even with Scarlet Witch’s fate confirmed. With Easter Eggs and references to many other series, Agatha All Along appears to be focused on telling a self-aware story that plays with the fates of many characters in the Marvel Universe. Following this, each episode has much to examine and interrogate.

Details on an Agatha All Along season 2 are scarce, suggesting that most of these questions will likely be answered during the season 1 run. Hopefully, like WandaVision’s ending, the series is able to give satisfying insight into each question that it has posed. What happens with Agatha and witchcraft in the MCU following the run of the series is a difficult question, but it is also an exciting one. In order to understand it, some burning questions must be asked.

Is Wanda Really Dead?

Wanda Maximoff Died In Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

While Wanda Maximoff died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU has introduced new ways for Scarlet Witch to return in the Agatha series. Wanda has been confirmed dead in the official MCU timeline book, and details from Agatha All Along seem to confirm this, with Agatha looking at Wanda’s dead body. However, this quickly becomes muddled when the dead body’s toe tag changes to also list Agatha’s name, suggesting a deeper connection between Wanda’s death and the loss of Agatha’s powers.

Elizabeth Olsen has spoken about Wanda, and has more or less confirmed that the character is dead in the MCU, even if some of Agatha’s comments in the show express doubt about this. Still, death is something that has been overcome in the MCU by many characters, from Loki and Gamora to Agent Coulson. Scarlet Witch’s end does not need to be further confirmed, but the actor could certainly return in the near future.

What Happened To Nicholas Scratch?

In the premiere of Agatha All Along, during the Mare of Easttown parody sequence, the death of Agatha Harkness’ son is referenced. In the comics, Nicholas Scratch is the name of Agatha’s son, and he has a significant connection with another Agatha All Along villain in The Salem Seven, who are his own children. Scratch is a powerful sorcerer and villain in Marvel Comics with connections to Mephisto.

In Agatha All Along, Agatha’s pet rabbit seems to be named after Nicholas Scratch, since the animal is called Senor Scratchy. It appears that there was some kind of tragedy in Nicholas Scratch’s past that remains to be explored. Nicholas Scratch makes sense as a villain who may appear later in the series; however, how this will connect with Agatha’s trauma and loss remains to be examined.

Who Sent The Salem Seven & Why?

The Salem Seven Are Canonically The Children Of Nicholas Scratch

The Salem Seven in Agatha All Along are a number of ghostly apparitions who chased Agatha and her coven into the Witches’ Road. In the comics, these figures are often depicted as Agatha’s own grandchildren, and the children of Nicholas Scratch. They are beastly entities with incredible, transformative powers linked to animals, and it would make sense that they are after Agatha if Scratch has sent them. This familial connection would make sense, although the motivations are unclear.

It is possible that the group are attempting to find some connection to the chaos magic that Agatha previously was after from Wanda. It is also possible that these figures could be related to witches that Agatha previously stole powers from in WandaVision‘s 17th century flashback sequence. The why is not yet known, but will likely come to light in future episodes of the series.

What Happened Between Agatha & Rio Vidal?

Rio Vidal Appears To Be A New Marvel Character

Rio Vidal is an interesting new character introduced in Agatha All Along who has a bitter past with the titular character. Details of this past have not been revealed. However, it seems that Rio Vidal is unable to kill Agatha. Strangely, despite having a past with Agatha, and appearing to be a significant character in the series, Rio Vidal is not pulled from the comics. Instead, the character, who seems to be Agatha’s ex, is a new creation for the show.

This has led to speculation that, like Agnes in WandaVision,Rio could later be revealed to be another character from Marvel Comics. Due to Agatha’s comics history, there may be some connection between her ex and Nicholas Scratch, or the Fantastic Four. Certainly, future episodes will help to explain their conflict and thereby provide context to Rio Vidal in the MCU.

Why Can’t Teen Say His Name?

Agatha Is Unable To Hear Certain Things Teen Says

The identity of Joe Locke’s teen character is a mystery in the series, although the character himself seems to see no need to obfuscate himself. Instead, when he attempts to reveal his name to Agatha, his mouth sews shut in magic that calls to mind Black Bolt’s death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessIt seems clear that some magic is keeping the character from revealing himself, although the characters in the series do not seem too worried about it.

Instead, action happens around Teen, who attempts to explain himself and where he comes from with no success. Clearly, his identity has some kind of importance that Agatha is not able to learn about at the beginning of the series. There is certainly some kind of magic at work here, although it remains to be seen from whom this magic originates. Someone does not want Agatha to know who Teen is.

Who IS Teen Really?

The Character’s Identity Is A Mystery

Speculation about who Joe Locke is playing in the series has run rampant since the actor was announced for the show. The most popular theory is that Teen is actually Billy, a grown-up version of one of Wanda’s sons. Billy Maximoff becomes the hero, Wiccan, and a reveal of this would make sense in the show. With that said, Teen did mention that he was born in Eastview, while in WandaVision, the children were born in Westview.

Another theory is that Teen is Nicholas Scratch. The son of Agatha is certainly a possibility for the character to be playing, although the candor that the character has so far provided would not align with an evil, manipulating villain. Still, the actor could be playing either of these roles, or could be someone else entirely.

What’s Inside Agatha’s Brooch?

Agatha’s Brooch Is Shown Briefly During The First Episode

Agatha’s brooch is given a small focus in the early sequences of Agatha All Along. This brooch appeared in WandaVision, where it was taken off of the body of her own mother in a flashback sequence. Agatha wore this necklace, and it appeared that she used it to control characters like Ralph Boehner in the series. Here, she has recovered the brooch, which seems to hold a lock hair inside of it.

It is unclear whose hair this is, or if there is any latent power inside of this necklace. Still, it appears to be a significant accessory for Agatha. More details on the importance of her brooch and how it connects not only to her powers, but to her family and her history, will likely be provided in forthcoming episodes. This could relate to characters like Nicholas Scratch and the Salem Seven.

What’s At The End Of The Witches’ Road?

The ending of Agatha All Along‘s premiere episodes saw the coven departing along the Witches’ Road. The road is a mystical place from Marvel Comics, to which Wanda traveled when magic was sick, because it’s where the Goddess of Witchcraft resides. Agatha All Along features a different interpretation, where the road grants those who walk it something they’re missing. For each of the witches in the series, there is something they desire and do not have. For Agatha, this is her powers, which she lost at the end of WandaVision.

The Witches’ Road appears to be heavily steeped in symbolism, and so understanding what might physically await the coven at the end of it is difficult. However, it is clear that what each member of the team is after will be found in some capacity at the end of this road. This may not be exactly as they expect it to be. Still, the importance and impact of the Witches’ Road will clearly be examined in the forthcoming episodes.

Can We Talk About Mephisto Yet?

The Villain Has Been Speculated To Join The MCU Since WandaVision

During the run of WandaVision, Mephisto was speculated by audiences to be behind everything occurring in Westview. While this did not wind up to be the case, it did begin speculation about when the character might appear in the MCU. Spider-Man: No Way Home used the “One More Day” storyline as a focus, and the comic book version of that featured the demon character of Mephisto. However, the villain did not appear in that film either. Ironheart is now the next project speculated to feature the character.

In the meanwhile, Agatha All Along has sparked Mephisto theories with mention of a character named Blackheart, who is canonically Mephisto’s son. With the focus on spirits and magic in the MCU, it is finally time for the villain Mephisto to join the universe in Agatha All AlongThe terrifying foe would be an excellent feature in the series and could follow up with appearances in other films and series throughout the Multiverse Saga. If Loki could introduce Kang, Agatha All Along can certainly introduce Mephisto.
