Tom Cruise is among the many recognizable faces and names from the past half century to be featured in a new book of celebrity-focused photography.
In Jonathan Becker: Lost Time — edited by Mark Holborn and published by Phaidon — Becker shares candid moments and planned portraits of stars, royals and artists.
Becker began his career at Vanity Fair in the 1980s, and went on to be featured in many other fashion magazines over the next five decades.
One of the striking snaps includes Cruise, 62, sharing a moment with his Jerry Maguire costar Cuba Gooding Jr., 56, as they reconnect in London in 2015, years after Gooding’s Oscar win for the 1996 film.
Another insightful snap shows Cruise and his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, 57, inside the Vanity Fair Oscars party in 2000.

The actor began the night as an Academy Award nominee for his supporting role in the psychological drama Magnolia. He lost to Kevin Spacey, who won for his work on American Beauty.
Kidman looked ravishing in the same gold dress she had worn at the ceremonies, but Becker caught her as she was taking a drag off a cigarette in the Vanity Fair tent, in spite of California’s ban on smoking in public.
The actress says she has since kicked the habit.
The collection includes a candid black-and-white photo of the late artist Jean-Michel Basquiat taken during an event at the Brooklyn Academy of Art.
Famed heiress and clothing designer Gloria Vanderbilt looks regal but relaxed as she sits for a portrait with the artist in her New York home.
Instead of staring into the camera, as might be expected for such a formal environment, the fashionista looks like a reflective red queen sitting in a red chair near her red and green fireplace.
A full length portrait of the jeans maker’s late mother, Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt, seems to look over her daughter’s shoulder.

Becker was a fly on the way as he took photos of a dinner at Buckingham Palace in 2001 that included then Prince Charles, 75, and his partner Camilla Parker-Bowles.
The royal appears engaged in coversation with a woman sitting to his right, while Parker-Bowles, whom the future king would marry in 2005, sits across the table, engaged in her own chat with a fellow guest.
The book, edited by Mark Holborn, also includes photos of Andy Warhol, Calvin Klein, Léa Seydoux, Frank Sinatra, Gloria Vanderbilt, Peter Beard, Fran Lebowitz, Arthur Miller, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cindy Sherman, André Leon Talley, Gore Vidal, Diana Vreeland, and David Bowie, and many more.
