The singer seemed to poke fun at her non-existent musical output while stepping out in NYC this week… plus more fashion news you missed.

The fact that Rihanna hasn’t released an album since 2016’s Anti has become a bit of a meme. At every sneaker event and lipgloss activation, the Bajan businesswoman is bombarded with questions from overenthusiastic journalists about her music career, and each time she bats them away with expert precision. “Who sent you?!” she’ll chide jokingly, moving on to the next talking point before anyone’s the wiser. It’s no surprise, then, that it’s old tracks like “Umbrella” and “Stay” that have just received Diamond certifications, as fans feverishly replay her back catalogue in place of any new music from the star.

But now, the dormant singer has decided that she’s over your questions actually, and what better way to declare it than the brash insistence of a slogan tee. Hours after launching yet another new venture (welcome to the club, Fenty Hair) Rihanna stepped out in New York City with the words “I’m retired” emblazoned across her chest. The t-shirt dress, which is an upcycled creation from Conner Ives’ SS24 collection, sent fans into a bit of a tizzy, with many bemoaning the fact that they were ‘never going to get the album’. Like Britney’s ‘Dump Him’ baby tee before her, the fit was a masterclass in simple yet effective fashion communication, with Ives himself tipping his hat to Rih’s troll moment. “Always sending messages,” he wrote on Instagram beside the pap shot, and following it up with a winking face.
